Aldi's contingency plans in full swing - "Y2K orders" being readied now.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My youngest son works at a huge Aldi's distribution warehouse, loading orders onto pallets for shipment. He called me tonight about family matters, but while we were talking he also mentioned that he and all the other loaders had been "filling Y2K orders" all day today. I asked him what he meant.

He said these orders were NOT the regular orders which individual stores send in, but were all exactly the same. They were company contingency orders comprising a general assortment of "basics" usually stocked by all stores and were being readied for shipment in case of supply or ordering disruptions -- so these basics would be in the pipeline and ready to go.

I also asked him if he had been told not to say anything about this -- in other words, was he violating any policy by telling me this? He said no, no one had told the loaders they shouldn't talk about this. That's why I'm posting this info here. For those who don't know, Aldi's is a German-owned bulk food supermarket chain. At least they're being smart and HAVE contingency plans, for which I'm grateful.

Thanks for the info, Bonnie. Good news and evidence of *any* smart contingency planning is achingly welcome here.

Y2K certainly may separate the savvy businesses from the dullards.

And Y2K will certainly hose those overhyped dot com money blackholes...

Nice to hear from you again Bonnie. Hope all goes well with you and your family. There's a need for wisdom as we brace ourselves for the 'event', so I hope you'll find the time to visit the scene again sometime.

Thanks, Bonnie. It is good to see an active contingincy plan. I'm afraid most will be re-active. We shall see who's left standing next year.

I'd like to thank you for all your hard work and excelent research on the EU y2k forum. You have made a difference.

Godspeed, Bonnie Ca
