USDA Plans to shut down system at rollover

Recieved this E-mail tonight. How many others are going to shut down. I remember a 40 page recommendation for IBM (OS/390 etc.) users that discussed the various strategies that a company might employ. It was LONG and the ramifications were unclear no matter what steps one might take. The feeling I got from it was, "here's what you might consider and why, but we have no idea if that will help or totally screw you up". ______ Mann Library, and the USDA Economics and Statistics System, has been planning for 18 months to be ready for the Y2K turnover. In preparation for this event, our systems have been upgraded and tested. We're confident the Library's systems will work properly after the end of the year. Even so, the USDA Economics and Statistics System is taking Y2K warnings seriously, and starting at noon (EDT) on Friday, December 31st, the Library will move the System offline and begin shutting down the System. The Library system administrators will bring the servers and telecommunications systems back on-line January 2nd, and full access to the USDA Economics and Statistics System will be restored by 8 am (EDT) January 3rd, 2000.

We thank you for your patience during this interruption of service. Feel free to contact Mann Library with any questions.
