Now I could write an entry like that every day - that's how easy it is..

What are your thoughts on Bridget Jones and/or Helen Fielding..?

Love love love Bridget Jones, although you know she spells her name wrong. I even made Jim read it. He laughed through the entire thing and didn't even feel creepy taking this girly girl book to work.

What IS a choctop?

Ahhh.. okay, so you Americans get all the movies before we do. You get Steven King books before we do. You get to see Buffy season 4 and spinoff Angel long before Austraian TV networks have even realised they exist (WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION DAMN YOU...!!) and oh, where was I..

Ah, yes - You get almost everything before we do, but you don't have ChocTops

Ha..!! Call yourselves an advanced forward-thinking happening kind of society do you..??? I feel most superior..

In fact, I might even keep it to myself..

tum..te..tum... arrgghhhh

No - have to spread the word, I can't help it..

Okay - a ChocTop is an ice cream (wooo groundbreaking stuff eh..?) it's like a Cornetto (please tell me you have those) except the outside has kind of been dipped in a hard shell of smooth chocolate..

Mmmmmmmmm..

And while I'm feeling superior, I will point out some other things you don't have in the States;

The Whitlams, Tim Freedman, SeaChange (wonderful, wonderful, best thing on television EVER) and David Wenham

Hardly worth being alive if you ask me..

Are there nuts in the chocolate part? Because it sounds a bit like a tasty treat called a Drumstick here in the US. Why is it called a drumstick? HellifIknow.

Okay, I just spend waaaay too much time trying to look up these two products...with next to no results. Although LookSmart did give me THREE links to The Life. Yeah!

Nononono, in Australia we have drumsticks too. They are woosy half the icecream no where near as good as chocktops.

Immy, you know they don't have Tim Tams or Mint Slices in the US either? And their chocolate is far too sweet. Poor babies.

I loved Bridget Jones, the first, but thought she was a bit of a bim, and waited eagerly for the appearance of Shazza. Shazza was cool. Tell me there is lots of Shazza in the second!

I'll tell you what else we don't have here America: a queen! ha!

Yes, but she was thrust upon us..

You people actually VOTED for Ronald Regan

-- Immy (jealousyw@rocketmail.com), December 09, 1999.

Well, we don't have that annoying Paul Hogan chap and stupid Foster's beer commercials...oh wait a minute, we do have those things, damn you people for importing them..!!

-- John B. (rirams@erols.com), December 09, 1999.

ah yes, Fosters, Australian for Beer we'd much rather import than drink..:-)

A choctop is like a icecream cone, about 3.5 inches inches high, and with a flat base on the bottom, unlike the drumstick, wich is a pointy cornetto type dealie. Then on top of this icecream cone is one scoop of icecream, vanilla, and then the icream, and the edge of the top of the cone, are dipped into chocolate that forms the hard crackly shell.

I had Jeffrey, artist spouse, whip me up a quick sketch of a ChocTop: http://www.amandasprecipice.com/precipice/images/choc_top.gif

Immy, and other's from Oz, let me know if it's not right! A. also pining for a ChocTop...

-- Amanda Page (amanda@amandasprecipice.com), December 12, 1999.

Vanilla..!!!

There are other yummy flavours too. My personal favourite is Boysonberry (truly to die for, and probabaly because they don't make a chocolate one..) but there is also banana, and (Amanda you won't know about these because they started after you left Oz, ut you'll probably want to come back now..) the super-dooper DOUBLE SCOOP ChocTops that you can get from Cinema Europa in new and funky flavors like Rum&Rasin, Toffee and Vanilla Bean

Mmmmmm...

Hey - just how diverse is Bridget Jones..! Bridget Jones, to politics, to ChocTops - now that's a leap

Di - for the record, Shazza is in fine form in the second novel.

Now I used to work in an ice cream store (and gee, weren't those two fun summers!) and we used to dip ice cream cones into that chocolate sauce that hardens. You dip the soft serve (which we had in chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate/vanilla twist) or some people even wanted the hard stuff dipped in there. We also had a strawberry dipping sauce (which tasted horrible to me, chocolate was much more popular)

So what's the difference between what I did (vanilla ice cream on a cone dipped into a chocolate sauce that hardens) and a ChocTop?

-- John B. (rirams@erols.com), December 13, 1999.

The difference is that one of them is a ChocTop, and the other ISN'T

Ha..!

-- Immy (jealousyw@yahoo.com), December 14, 1999.

Hey Amanda..!!

I can't speak for the other states, but in Victoria our ChocTops actually do have a pointy bottom (like a cornetto) so that little drawing is not quite right from my end..

But it's still groovy

-- Immy (jealousyw@yahoo.com), December 14, 1999.

Very funny Immy..you just can't admit that we have ChocTops over here!

Put that on your barbie and smoke it

Double ha!!

-- John B. (rirams@erols.com), December 14, 1999.

John B:

ChocTops= hard icecream, like the stuff you can buy at the supermarket.

Soft serve dipped in chocolate = well, pretty damn yummy, but not a ChocTopTM :-)

Thanks for the clarification Amanda, some people did order ice cream cones with the hard ice cream dipped in the chocolate sauce. Although most people wanted the soft stuff, which was fine with me; it was bloody awful scooping that hard ice cream, I think that's where I got my carpal tunnel syndrome.

So a choc top is like a drumstick type thing?
