Resistance Welding fine wires .004" diameter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

We are currently welding .004" diameter copper wires to platinum rings. I am using a linear DC welding power supply. The yield strength of the wires before welding is about 1 pound. After welding the yield pull strength decrease to about 1/2 pound. I want to increase the strength of the weld joint as much as possible. Should I try using helium as a shielding gas? Will this help? What other things can I try?

Its too late to answer you.But never the less.

Try increasing the overlap of the materials to be welded. It is natural that as you increase the area of weld there is more yeild strength.

If you have found any other solution already, let me know it.
