Nice graphic image. Great luck catching the spider!

However in an image this graphic my personal preference would be to have both flowers sharp.

I think the composition is great, but what I really like is that green frame you added to the picture, spider color match. If not for the frame, the spider (the subject, that is) would look sort of pale on these bright flowers.

How did you blacken the background? Was it done electronically after the shot?

Dark background is a result of metering for the bright flower and using a white reflector fill to make the subject even more brighter than the background.
