How Much Disel Does It Take To Run A Large Generator?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Recently Detroit Water & Waste Management announced the installation of about eight large generators run by disel. Does anyone know how much disel fuel is needed to keep a generator running for a 24 hour period. Does anyone know anymore about Detroit utilities? If you read the second Navy Report, Detroit was not supposed to be ready in water, waste and electricity.

Ruth, what is disel? Never heard of it before.

Maybe it should be "diesel", perhaps?

Wert, I have no idea what disel is! I also have no idea how I managed to post the question three times. I think I am having a bad day. Thanks for your kindness!

Ruth,

Detroit, huh? Do you have any other options? I'm poor and stuck in the suburbs in Virginia, so I'm not pointing a finger. But Detroit is probably the last place I would wanna be, unless I had some quality independent heat, et al, and could stay under a pile of blankets in my home for quite some time. It's too dang cold for my bones.

Ruth,

My 40kw Cat drinks 1 1/2 - 2 gal/hr under various loads. It's ancient. The newer ones may be more efficient. It all depends on how much juice they put out. In order to run a water & waste mgmt facility, I would imagine these gennys would be much larger than my 40kw unit!
