Would appreciate input on final

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

My photo final is : "With the basest of companions, I walked the streets of Babylon." Augustine Confessions II,3. This is to be represented by ONE B&W photo. I could really use input-I'm stumped! One idea I had and shot last night-pulled a recliner in front of tv-model in recliner so could see arm & legs-focused on tv screen while Jerry Springer show was on. But I don't know if image will be clear and other things. Will develop film tomorrow. Thanks to anyone with a suggestion.

When you don't have answers, look for questions. Who is walking in Babylon? Is it really you, or are you watching someone? What does "Basest of companions" mean? What is the role of the 'companion'? What does it mean to be in Babylon? What is going to happen? Should you have a different companion, or are you learning from being with a base companion?

The basest of companions is Satan...finds visual ways to depict him (or her?!)

Is this title of your own making or was it assigned by your instructor?...or maybe chosen from an instructor's list?

Well DUH, Todd. Of course its Satan. Any thoughts on the manifestation of that concept? What is evil? Is it more evil to live next to an Adult Bookstore, or in a town with no Public Library? All I'm saying by asking question is to get a finer line on the definition. If you had to walk with Satan, would it be to tempt you, hurt you, or a test to see if you could be a positive influence on Satan? If you think of these things, the pictures will come in focus.

...sort of illustrates the thought behind my question above. I was under the impression that this was a photo assignment not a philosophical one.

I think your idea fits the scenario just fine. Maybe you could find TVs tuned into The Jerry Springer Show in restaurants or a bar or at a dept store where there's a lot of them. Try cross processing or use Polaroid (SX70).

This sound like a philosophical photo assignment (the best kind, in my opinion)...t
