Mountain Rifle:

Born there; raised there. Like most West Virginians I left a long time ago. In my case it was 35 y ago. You go where the jobs are. All of that college gave me no choice. Yet, WV is always home.

Best wishes,,,,

I've only been there once...Twenty-two years ago the boy of my dreams lived in West Virginia and I visited him there. It was about as close to heaven as one could get. But we drifted apart and I haven't seen him in all these many years. I can still remember those wonderful, romantic days in West Virginia...and now I live a thousand miles from there. But at least I'm ready for Y2K. Oh well.

Yep, Live right smack dab in the center of WV!

Born and raised just outside of Charleston. Went to college at Concord and WVU. Like Z, I left there many years ago because of the job market. 1/3 of the guys in my highschool grad class died in VietNam and most of the rest of us spent a lifetime there. I haven't been back for 20 years but I still miss the mountains.

Left the 'by-god' in 1984 for points south, I miss it.

West Virginia, along with the rest of the country east of the Mississippi, just don't have mountains ya'll. There more akin to oversized hills.

I am a Florida flatlander now but spent many years living in real mountains.

Rocky Mountains!

Born in the free state of McDowell County WV. Left 15 years ago via the Hillbilly Hiway. I miss the mountains very much, but visit often.

Not quite in WV, but about 50 miles east in the mountains west of Lexington. Moved here from Florida two weeks ago, to a farm, because of Y2K. Wonderful place. Wonderful people. Will never go back even if Y2K is nothing but a BITR.

the Virginian:

I've lived more of my life in the western mountains. I've hiked a lot of them: the Wind River, Beartooth, San Juans, Gore, Mosquitoes, North Cascades, Tetons, St. Elias, etc. Sure are pretty and sure are big. But bigger is not always better. For me, you can draw a box around southern WV, western VA and NC, and eastern TN and Kentucky and cover some of the finest country in North American. I guess it is just a matter of what you like.

Best Wishes,,,

By the way:

I am on my way to Three Sisters (North, Middle, and South), a Broken Top, and a Bachelor. The three sisters will be mine. Someday, I am going to die doing this stuff [I am getting to old]. If you don't hear of an experienced climber dieing in Oregon, I may live to retire to Southern WV.

Best Wishes,,,
