AE Prism and finder screens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Well, I did it and took the plunge. My 67II arrived yesterday!

But I have a question about the AE prism. Unless I look straight (and I mean *straight*) through the finder, I can see the reflection of some light in the bottom of the finder, which I suppose is off the screen.

Do other people have trouble with this? I found it sort of disturbing, since other SLRs I've used havn't been like this. I suspect that simply the size of the screen and finder may have something to do with this.

Also, I replaced the standard screen with BB-61 (split) screen. It helps me to focus (I never could get good results with those micro-prisms things!) I've noticed that the viewfinder is bright, which is a good thing, but that at least with the 165mm lens the contrast is such that objects don't 'snap' into focus.

I presume the reflection comes from your own eye! Try and look aroun a bit and it should move. If it does, it's just the white of your eye leaving a reflection inside. How else would you explain the disappearence of the reflection when you look straight in? Was I right?

Dan,

I've owned my P67II since February and today, as I read your e-mail, pulled it out of my bag and for the first time ever, noticed the reflection you mention. It doesn't bother me, since I always look through the viewfinder straight on, but you're right, it does exist (and it's not the white of the eye, it's from the prism or the focusing screen).
