Bird Feed

Well, Mercy! Just thought to post a new O.T., and I am fore-warned in big red letters about those who are being de-bunked. Don't like red letters. But if this makes the Forum, it will be a Mercy. A neighbor, more knowledgeable than I, said, "Watch the Birds, see what they eat, and follow suit". Heavens Speed.

I've been a wildlife rehabber for many years, specializing in birds, but other critters occasionally.

Not quite....birds are able to eat several things that we humans would find somewhat toxic or just inedible.

Not a good idea to eat what the birds eat....nor what squirrels eat either. The latter are able to eat some poisonous fungi (mushrooms) that would render us quite ill..or dead!

I would not follow your neighbors advice.Birds have different digestive systems then humans.Certain berrys that birds thrive on would make you very sick.If not worse.

Elvis: All we have around here are buzzards. I am not into road-kill yet. However....(anyone have a recipe for armadillo pie!).

We throw our old bread out for the birds. Never any bread laying around outside, and never and sick or dead birds either... <:)=

Better yet, buy bird feed for the birds, then eat the birds.

Elvis & co.,

Some of the birds 'round these parts are partial to poison oak berries, others to carrion. The deer love the wacky mushrooms that pop up around Christmas time that supposedly help you see Santa as they make you toss your cookies {or worse}.

Think I'll stick to watching, but you can follow suit - if you're so inclined.
