When does- "Convinced NO problems=Just in Case"- go together?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Are you as sick as I am of these two statements in the same paragraph of most reports and most talking heads.

We are absolutely convinced-No problems,

But,but,but,but, Just in case!!

Just in case---What???

I loved it on oprah---Marriot---We will have the swimming pool filled up with drinkable water. Just in Case.

We will have these generators-----Just in Case.

But hey---Absolutely----ABSOLUTEELY--UNIQUIVOCALLY--NFW-you can rest assured--SLEEP on it--NO PROBLEMS, DON'T you Panic---I said we will have the swimming pooled filled up!!. WE are convinced there will be no Problems.

BUT...................................................................................

Every time I drive my car, I am convinced that I will not crash. - But, Just in case, I wear a seat belt.

Every time I fly an aircraft, I am convinced I will arrive safely at my destination. - But, just in case, I still file a flight plan.

If I was absolutly sure, I wouldn't wear a seat belt.

Heard on the radio that the City of Austin's elevators are y2k compliant BUT you will not be allowed to get on one from 11:00pm on 12/31/99 to 7:00am on 01/01/2000. The reason they gave is they don't want anyone in the elevator if the electricity goes off. They say this has nothing to do with y2k. Is that what is making you sick? Me too.

Malcolm, you clearly do not know how to interpret data (your own internal data.) No, Malcolm, you do not wear a seat belt if you are convinced you will not crash.

That is ASSININE, and that is why you are a sheeple. If you cannot interpret YOUR OWN DATA then you will never interpret the data, "out there." It's that simple. My advice to you is to draw up your will today.

Gee paul, looks to me like you're the one who can't interpret data. You've obviously missed Malcolms point. And a good one it was! Draw up a will huh? I can't stop laughing!!!!!

Paul,

I am sure that I am not going to die in the near future. But, just in case, I HAVE drawn up a will.
