Seattle Photos-need help

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hey guys! I know I said I would lurk only, but need help. I have a "cop" friend who has not seen the picture of the Seattle cop firing a street sweeper 12 gauge at peaceful demonstrators. This is the picture where the cop is standing 3 feet away and the protesters are sitting on the ground. I want to show him, but can't find the picture anymore. Can someone help??? I think the Seattle po-lice done screwed the pooch on this one. Massive lawsuits are in order.

Haven't see the street sweeper one... yet. Linkmeister?

These are "interesting" too.

Questions to ponder

Who decided on the terror strategy?
Where did all the money come from for the equipment and training to carry it out?
 Who conducted the training?

And...

A few historical notes on recent chemical warfare training in urban areas

[i.e. Remember the Marine Urban Warfare training?]

That was a tear gas dispenser not a street sweeper.

I find it curious that there is an attempt to divert blame for some of the more brutal actions. Chief(politician to the core) Stamper is telling the press: Oh...you saw that, eh? Well, he wasn't one of OURS, he was one of those OTHER police! We know who he is and his department will take appropriate action. (referring to the incident in which a riot armor-clad cop kicked a young man in the crotch and then fired a rubber (wooden?) bullet into him at point blank range.) This occurred up on Broadway avenue- well outside the no demonstration zone.

I agree totally-police/civilian relations have been badly damaged if not broken entirely. Forget the WTO. WE LIVE HERE.

Richard,

Hello. Try this:

http://www.seattletimes.com

There is a link for protest photos as well as editorials, etc... at that site. However, when I tried this morning, I couldn't get to the photos (perhaps they're updating?).

Anyway, you'll find some interesting comments there, where the officials are admitting that some innocent bystanders had been attacked by the police, etc... Also, Reno made a statement where there were lessons to be learned from this, and that both sides needed to sit down, to make sure that THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE. (Can anybody say Y2K unrest?)

I saw that coverage too, where the young man was kicked in his privates and then shot point-blank by the police "officer".

This wasn't crowd control, it was BRUTALITY.

The Seattle Police Department is infested with cowards who aren't worthy of carrying the badge that was entrusted to them.

Heard on local news (Eastern Washington) this A.M. that a website has been established for the purpose of impeaching Seattle's Mayor Schell. The news gave the URL as www.impeachschell.com, but, that is incorrect. If any Seattlites have heard of this, and know the correct URL for the impeachment site, please post it here. Thanks!
