Dear Most Holy Father,

I am writing you this letter on behalf of a death row inmate, David Rocheville. He is scheduled to be executed on December 3, 1999 at 6:00pm. We are very desperate at this time, for no one seems to be listening. David was convicted of a murder in 1991 due to poor legal representation. I firmly believe that David is innocent in the killings he was put on death row for. There is just too much that exists in david's case that has not been observed. I do not condone the crime, but I do believe that David was only a bystander. I plead for your help in this matter. I am so upset that David's case has proceeded this far without being properly presented. All we ask is for clemency. This man has been an inspiration not only in my life, but others. Rather it's inside the walls he's confined in or outside. He can continue spreading that inspirtation if you help. David is a man of faith. He not only has faith in God, but in the system. I believe if this execution goes through we will all lose faith in the system and an innocent man will be killed. So now I beg you to help us spare a life. We are running out of time. Dear Christine: I don't know whether you got an answer from the Holy Father or not. Was David executed? It is only today that I learned of his problem, otherwise I would at least have offered my prayers for him. In case he was executed I will still offer my prayers for him and for you.

Christine, I prayed many times for David and know that our Father took him in His arms at that crucial time. I know David's friends were deeply (me included- I was in the Navy during the time of the killings) devoted and that David was thankful. I want to thank you also for remaining beside him even during times of trouble. You were and are a true friend in Christ. Melanie
