History of the Live Oak, Perry, & Gulf RR

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I was in Perry, Florida last week. and noticed all the Southern whistle post around the local depot. I know that the ACL Perry Cut-Off went down the west side of Florida, but I am not sure of the Southern RR conection. At one time the ACL owned the railroad that ran from Perry to Live Oak, Florida, with a branch line to Mayo, Florida. Did the Southern purchase the line from ACL and is it still on owned by NS? I folowed the line from Perry up to Greenville, Florida, where is crosses the old SAL (now CSX) and up to the Georgia state line. I noticed on the switch locks had the initals of AG RR, what is this railroad? Any information you can send me will be appreciated very much. Thank you Allen L. See DIESEL ERA, Vol.9, No. 2, for a nine page story on the LOP&G.It explains all the trackage rights and abandonments, and has a map showing connecting RR's.

A short history of the LOP&G can be found on the current Taplines website at http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/4095/July/lopg1.htm
