Jim Lord Provides Additional Information on Mr. CEO and responds to a critic.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This is in response to several requests for more information on my knowledge of what Mr. CEO has to say about utilities. I also want to comment on some of the attacks on me.

The most important part of Mr. CEOs story has already been told. As previously revealed, he believes a loss of forty to sixty percent of the nations electrical power for 2-3 weeks and dirty power for a year is a best case scenario. Much of the remainder is supportive detail.

In addition he indicated his company is finding embedded chip failure rates that are much higher (5-10%) than the optimistic figures being reported by the likes of Bennett/Koskinen (0.3-0.5%). Also, it has been his experience that many utility (and other) companies are not undergoing independent verification and validation (IV&V) of their Y2K projects because they dont want the dirty paper in their files. The implication is that in the event of lawsuits, no IV&V is preferable to a failed IV&V.

At one time I was interested in arranging a meeting between Mr. CEO, Senator Bennett and John Koskinen. I changed my mind when he said he had reason to believe they already had all of this information.

I am not as convinced as many on this board are of the overwhelming importance of Mr. CEOs information. At this point, very few people are likely to have their minds changed about Y2K no matter what kind of information they are given. I also believe that Mr. CEOs revelations should not be accepted as gospel. In my judgment this information does not guarantee there will be massive power outages. It is simply an opinion albeit one from a uniquely qualified source.

The bottom line is there is no time remaining for any meaningful action to take place. There was a moment in time prior to the Titanics collision with the iceberg when nothing could be done on the bridge or in the engine room that would change the events about to happen. We are now in that breathless moment. The collective captain (Clinton, Gore, Koskinen, Bennett, Greenspan, Gates et.al.) has decided to prepare for the best case. Regardless of how Y2K turns out this decision is wrong but it has been made.

The only appropriate action on the part of Y2K believers is to make one more stop by your stateroom to ensure you havent left anything behind. Prayer is also a good idea.

Incidentally, for the gentleman who stated that up until this Y2K issue I was a life long failure, I offer the following,

I have been married to the same woman for thirty-eight years and have eight grown children and nine grandchildren who all love me.

I served my country in the US Navy for 24 years rising through seven enlisted grades and six officer ranks.

I spent eighteen months in combat in Vietnam.

I graduated with honors earning a degree in business from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

I taught business courses at the college level for two and half years. As a government contractor, I also taught principles of satellite command and telemetry to over 3500 students.

I spent nineteen months as the marketing director and principal R&D engineer for a small electronics firm in Florida. When I joined the company it was losing $20,000 a month. When I left it was making a third of a million dollars a month.

I served my country further by spending fifteen years a a defense contractor in the Washington DC area. I have held a multitude of high level security clearances and worked for years on several of this nation's most highly classified programs.

And all this before Y2K came into my life. Risking immodesty, I will admit to being proud of these failures.

I know its tough but why dont you stick to discussing the issues instead of making personal attacks on the participants. You belittle only yourself.

Well Boys and Girls,

What can you add to this.......??????

I can only add one word: BOHICA.

"I also believe that Mr. CEOs revelations should not be accepted as gospel. In my judgment this information does not guarantee there will be massive power outages."

-- This from the man the NY Times called a "Prominent Doomsday Alarmist". Mr. Lord, you here show your true colors... and they are Red White and Blue. As a former navyman myself, I salute you. Thanks for the info, and God bless.

Thanks, Jim. Your own credentials are astonishing.

My problem with the anonymity of Mr. CEO is that it gives me nothing substantial to go to my family with to convince them to make greater preparations. At this point, of course, it's becoming moot, as we are rapidly running out of time. Having a name and a face to attach to a story would (hopefully) be more effective in convincing family members that their 'few days' scenario is too optimistic.

You sure set the record straight, Jim. I'm proud of you. Personally I just think the pressure of the countdown is getting to a lot us. The fear of the unknown. Let's all try to just hold on a little longer...

According to MR. CEO, "...believes a loss of forty to sixty percent of the nations electrical power for 2-3 weeks and dirty power for a year is a best case scenario. "

What is his guess as to the most probable scenario???? What part of the country is the 40 to 60% ??

We love ya too Jim.

Jim, we appreciate all that you are and have done. You've put a ton of work into research and warnings on Y2K. For those who have even the slightest concept of how demanding and sacrificial that must have been, you have never had any need to validate yourself, your credentials or your integrity. Thanks for all you've done.

BTW, I understand that Jeff Rense would dearly love to interview you on his 'SIGHTINGS' show - I'm sure he'd appreciate a call or e- mail from you...:)

Jim Lord has always had our support and admiration. We valued his writings. When we saw him speak in Seattle, we were very impressed with his solid delivery, personableness, total grasp of the facts, willingsness to explain to audiences large and small, and his obvious honesty. We posted our findings on this Forum. This man demands respect by his very demeanor and bearing. Some people's character is immediately evident, and Jim Lord's is that of a true patriot.

-- Ashton & Leska in Cascadia (allaha@earthlink.net), December 02, 1999.

Jim, No need to pay attention to the polly trolls, for goodness sake. Thanks for the Mr. CEO information. Appreciate it and all of your efforts!

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), December 02, 1999.

BRAVO!

Jim, With 50% power outage for 2 to 3 weeks as Mr. CEO's best case, would you please elaborate on his "probable" case or his (dare I ask) "worst case".

While there is indeed little time, there is still some time to add to preparations before a panic starts and it would be helpful to get any informed opinion on the duration and severity of what may happen.

Thanks for all your efforts.

-- Bill P (porterwn@one.net), December 02, 1999.

Thank you Jim. You have been more valuable and credible to our cause than may ever be properly acknowleded. You are a gentleman and a patriot and these two aspects of character are completly foreign to far too many Americans who are void of ethics and honor.

Best of luck to you and Mrs. as well as all other big and little Lords!

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), December 02, 1999.

Thanks for the additional comments, Jim. You are correct when you point out that it doesn't make much difference at this point in time.

As to your list of 'failures', give them a hug and a prayer. All of our 'failures' should be as noteworthy. Good luck.

-- Arnie Rimmer (Arnie_Rimmer@usa.net), December 02, 1999.

Dear Mr. Lord, May I just say thank you from one of many *little people* who value what you've done, and appreciate the character you have shown under fire.

I am sorry that you have had to suffer the harsh criticism and personal attacks of some... yet this is not an uncommon occurance in the life of someone who stands up for the Truth.

May the LORD bless you and your family as we await the outcome of Y2K... (and afterwards!)

Mr Lord, I can't thank you enough for all the work and the research you have done. Indeed it is too late for most people to do more than the minimum of preparation. However, even the minimum is better than nothing. Unlike those who spin the lies in Washington DC, you have tried to warn those who are sleeping. Whatever happens you will have a clear conscience however I do wonder about those in Washington DC!

Your courage and determination are inspiring. I don't inspire easily.

Jim,

What a gracious reply to someone whose words didn't merit such civility. You have enumerated so many noteworthy successes in this thread that the guy who attacked your character and accomplishments should be terribly ashamed...if he has any integrity.

For what it's worth, I agree with Mr. CEO's decision. There are only 4 weekends left before rollover. One more piece of information, no matter how credible the source or sensational the content, is not going to change the outcome or create a stampede of last-minute bean buyers. For Mr. CEO, the odds would be extremely low while the stakes remained unacceptably high.

Good luck to you and yours and we'll see you on the other side.

Jim, many thanks for all your contributions to y2k awareness, they are much appreciated.

Pay no attention to the AIRHEADS and NITWITS that frequent this forum, they have NO credentials and never will!!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your response.

I do have one concern, though.

You said: "I am not as convinced as many on this board are of the overwhelming importance of Mr. CEOs information. At this point, very few people are likely to have their minds changed about Y2K no matter what kind of information they are given."

I agree that it's too late to change most people's minds (though a recent link from CNET to c.s.y2k seems to have alerted more people who want to get prepared).

However, those of us who have been preparing would like to know: What area of preparations should be emphasized in the few days remaining?

Mr. CEO's input would be useful in this regard.

Dear Jim, There is no doubt in my mind that Y2K will mean much suffering. You, Paula, Gary, and others have publicly tried to sound the alarm and wake people up at the expense of being called doomers, alarmists, fools, whatever. But it was more important to you to get the word out in hopes of saving lives and sparing people much suffering. What did you really have to gain from doing this? Nothing except knowing in your heart you did what you believed to be right. One only has to look around the world today to see that greed and self gain are what motivates the majority. All I can say is "Thanks, Jim, for your selfless efforts."

-- Diana Fleming (healthy53@hotmail.com), December 02, 1999.

A huge thank you for running scout and taking the flak from the loose cannons. There is obviously a huge force behind you (I was going to say army, but I don't want to dis' an olde navy man) on your position. Even though the masses are still partying on the Titanic, while Ko skin em and Clinton are sailing in an ICey Cea (ICC ;o)). Those few brave souls who could bear your message and act on it, are standing by at the lifeboats (if not already in them). Due to the preps we have made, and what we have learned on how to handle an emergency. We will be able to step to action on our block, village and community and offer a clear, sound advice on how to enter a liferaft and how to row.

Also, because people like you have made Y2K a household word, if and when problems occur. The DGI'S will understand the gravity of the situation much quicker, therefore respond in kind, than if the laisse faire campaign had been total. It's as if the passengers of the Titanic had just seen a movie about a big ship hitting an iceberg. 95% of the viewers would not have done anything about it, while 5% would have prep'ed to some degree. But when the ship hit, you would see ALL those liferafts occuppied and quickly.

Once again, Thank you.

-- Sage (sage_meadows@hotmail.com), December 02, 1999.

Jim: Thank you for your tremendous dedication to alerting people about what Y2K could bring. This certainly includes the Navy report of last Summer, which remains to this late date a "crack" in the armor of the government spinmeisters.

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.cum), December 02, 1999.

Thanks for all your effort Jim. I only saw you once on C-SPAN but agree you are the real deal. Good luck to you and your family. I hope your children who might be sceptical at least come to your place for the New Year.

-- Gregg (g.abbott@starting-point.com), December 02, 1999.

I only met Jim once in passing in April 1998, but I "served" proudly with him as a columnist on the good ship Westergaard.

In my five years of Y2Ktime, I've become somewhat jaded & judgemental about folks motivations concerning the involvment with Y2K.

In my book, Jim passes all tests with flying colors. As anyone who attempts to deliver unpleasant news ("shoot the messenger") Jim had much to loose by sticking his neck out, & very little to gain.

Thank you Mr. Lord, my hat is off to you and we do appreciate all the time, energy and effort you have put forth during these trying days. You have made a difference. I also believe it is too late for any revelations to make any marked difference and understand the heartbreak and soul wrenching of having to come to such a conclusion. May you and your family walk in peace and know you are in the smoke of our prayers. Walk Well - DD

Dear Mr. Lord,

Thanks to your (as well as Gary North's, Mike Adams's, et. al) research and generosity I have bought Y2K insurance that may well save my life. I have also extended your gift by sharing it with others in South America. Some of their lives might also be saved if things turn out bad. I hope you find comfort and support in the knowledge that a lot of us appreciate and love you.

Dear Mr.Jim Lord:

I am from India. I have been closely observing the Y2K scenario and reading documents from you and others like Ed Yourdon, Gary North, Mike Adams etc. I owe a lot to all of you for raising Y2K awareness and urging preparations. Thank you once again.

Jim Lord I dont know you (except for a few paragraphs) but my gut tells me that you are in a class with the likes of Robert E. Lee. A most honourable person who soldiers followed, cheered and died for.

We desperately need your kind in high places today. Regretably that will not happen until its too late.
