Try comparing "The House of Usher" to "The Tell-Tale Heart". They are both great stories and I am sure that there are several comparisons that can be made.

Poe was not as concerned with the plot as he was the degree of effect it made in the mind by the way it is twisted. It was common practice for him to hear a story and then make it more complex by changing certain elements. For example Berenice was written a month after a news report about grave robbers who stole teeth. In Berenice he digs up his deceased wife and rips her teeth out. The way he twist the plots of other stories is his genius. Another example would be The Assignation, which he took from the love affair between Lord Byron and Countess Guiccoli(?). email me and we'll go fishin if you can get those pimento cheese sandwiches.

I think that the best stories to compare would be "The Black Cat", and "The Tell-Tale Heart". The plots are similar, but he chooses to exploit them in diffrent manners. The comparing is taken in by the generality of the story line, and the contrasts should be easily taken out by the diffrence in the carrying out and conviction of the stories.

I have to do an assertive paper on Edgar Allen Poe's short stories and I am going to compare "Tell-tale Heart" to " The Raven". Both of these stories were very fascinating to me and i really enjoyed reading them both. I would recommend to anyone that has to compare stories to Compare the "Tell-tale Heart" with any other short story because it just has a vast amount of comparing and contrasting you can do--PLUS IT MAKES FOR A FUN PAPER TO DO AND READ!
