Well, friends, we have one month to go until the date rollover. I don't know what to expect this month, and I don't know what to expect afterwards. I certainly hope that it goes fairly smoothly, but at this point I would not be surprised by anything. I have long been an advocate of the idea that it will most likely shake out in a way that nobody has imagined. That's sort of one step removed from the "nobody knows" mantra.

I feel that this is a bad time (is there ever a good time?) to bring this up, but I need to ask you, readers and friends of the Review, for a little help. Micronet/Taxlight, which kindly sponsored the Review for most of this year, has decided not to offer its sponsorship any longer.

Originally, they had said that they would sponsor us through the end of the year, but have changed their minds for this month. Right when things may get interesting again! I preferred having a single sponsor, as it kept us from having to hustle up advertising, and deal with the perception of "scare-mongering" in order to make money. I also preferred not having to ask the readership for money, as that can get complicated.

However, now I find myself in a bit of a bind.

My intention is to keep the Review going for as long as possible (IF possible!), into the new year, and on an as needed basis. I expect that January will be filled with interesting news (hopefully not TOO interesting) and that for the first quarter of the year, there will be news here and there. Shortly after the first quarter corporate earnings are announced, things may slow down enough that the Review may no longer be necessary.

So... even though the Holiday season is a bad time for this, I need to ask friends and readers for a small donation to keep the Review going into next year. 20 bucks from 100 people will do it. I am open to selling banner space on the site, but quite frankly, I don't want it to be complicated. (I have turned away inquiries in the past, that were based on hit count.) I'm open to any other ideas that people may have.

I'm also open to any offers of part-time web-based work that I can do from home while also working on the Review. (I get e-mails for "work from home" schemes all the time, but ignore them. I don't know how I got on THAT mailing list!) In short, any suggestions and contributions that can be offered to keep the Review going into next year would be happily and gratefully accepted. I dread the possibility of having to shut it down prematurely and doing techie work again. (like post-rollover Y2K upgrades, for small businesses, which could be lucrative, but not as interesting as news-gathering!)

Depending on the response that I get to this plea, I'll either e-mail people individually, or post information to the website. Thanks for your support and encouragement!

-Patrick

Could you please explain what the Review is, what it is for, who it might help and why it is needed?

Bob, could you or patrick post a mailing address? Not a VR address but RT.

Thanks Uncle Bob.

Patrick,

Since I didn't make the NYC get together a few months ago, perhaps I can "buy you a drink" now. E-mail me (y2kboard@yahoo.com) info. I'll wonder over to your site later to make sure that you get this message. Best of luck to you my friend. <:)=

Patrick Shannon runs an excellent clipping service with Y2K commentary. See...

Also, pshannon@sangersreview.com has contributed much to this forum. He earned my respect many months ago.

Sincerely, Uhhmm...

Hey Patrick,

From the next check, end of this week, you've got $20.00 coming from me.

(Now what the heck is your address!)

I've recieved the Sanger's review everyday for months and was always impressed by Patrick's great work. A source of pure raw Y2K facts and news, right in my emailbox. I couldn't thank Patrick enough. I'm glad to throw in my $20 to help the Sanger's Review stay up (hey! I saved over $20 from not renewing my subscription to the great Y2K spinner Time Magazine, glad to give it to Patrick!)

Count me in for $20.

Patrick - Fer Sure!! count me in for 20 bucks. Sanger's is a household word as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, I have a vested interest - do you remember that I'm the one who alerted the forum to the fact the Larry Sanger needed help or he might have to shut down? And then YOU got the job!! Good for everybody.

If you can, e-mail me at address below and tell me where to send money. We need you.

I'm actually kind of embarrassed by this!! Chris told me I shouldn't be, so I'll try not to be.

Thank you so much to everybody who has sent me e-mails, and support on this thread! I'll send my snail mail address via e-mail, but I would prefer not to post it to the forum.

And yes, I did actually start out doing kind of a mini version of it here on the forum, and then went to help Larry after cat's heads up. Homer Beanfang and others sort of picked up where I left off here. (Actually, Homer posts more news here than I ever did, and I get leads from him from here!)

It does seem to me like the news is heating up, and taking some interesting turns. There are a lot of very strange statements being made. The Washington Post) Mixed Millennium Message--on Purpose article, for example, may be subtly one of the 10 most important stories of the year, but it got lost in the shuffle. Also, the machinations in the oil industry are worth watching. Oil has long been among my biggest concerns.

So, I'm planning on keeping the Review going as long as it is needed, (and possible), but I also hope that early next year, it becomes completely unnecessary!

Cheers!

To the top (in case some people missed this.)

My check's in the mail Patrick. Good luck and thanks again for your hard work at Sanger's.
