John Lennon invented that term in the late-60's.

Power to the People.

Power to the People, right on.

And yes, it still applies. I just hope that more PEOPLE get involved in THEIR government -- the last year (2000) of the Millennium -- and take us nicely into 2001 to start the Third Millennium in peace.

"John Lennon invented that term in the late-60's. " Naw. It was used before that by the YIPPIES (Youth International Party), Black Power Movement, and a number of anti-war groups. Lennon was a (pardon the pun) Johnny-come-lately when he picked it up.

Craig....

whatever.

Spew away.

Jim and Peter,

No, I'm sure that Tim was at home wondering why the whole anti 695 crowd were downtown destroying the city. Spew away guys, spew away. Why don't you do something productive instead of complaining about people being able to keep some of their own money.

Well, excuse me for having an opinion.

But perhaps someone could explain the difference between the 695 crowd -- whose ultimate aim is to get rid of government -- and the so- called "anarchists" who were smashing store windows with the ultimate aim of, well, getting rid of government.

Peter-

"But perhaps someone could explain the difference between the 695 crowd -- whose ultimate aim is to get rid of government -- and the so- called "anarchists" who were smashing store windows with the ultimate aim of, well, getting rid of government. " First of all, I didn't see a lot of political intent beyond just smashing and trashing from the "anarchists." I don't think they care about government one way or another, as long as they can pilfer, plunder, and make fools of themselves. As for the pro-695 MAJORITY, I can only answer for my own motivation. I am more than happy to be taxed tofund those services that must be done by government at a reasonable level. This includes a social safety net for long term care for those unable (that was unable, not unwilling) to care for themselves. I consider that money well spent. I am NOT willing to quietly allow myself to be taxed for services that could be done more effectively by private enterprise, or that must be done by government but are being done in an inefficient or ineffective manner. I am particularly unwilling to sit quietly by while I am taxed to pay for causes I don't believe in, services I don't believe are legitimate government functions, or to buy votes or campaign contributions from various special interest groups. This seems pretty rational to me. What's your gripe with this philosophy?

More to the point, if you are actually THAT contemptuous of a majority of your fellow citizens, why would you want to stay here?

-- Craig Carson (craigcar@crosswinds.net), December 10, 1999.

PeterH, (Craig, he obviously needs a simpler answer). The difference between the WTO anarchists, and I-695 supporters is the WTO anarchists violated the law and I-695 supporters voted in a legal election exersizing their Constitional Rights. I seriously doubt you will find many anarchists among us. Did you help write the anti 695 propaganda? You sound capable, by your exaggerated posts.

Peter H.

I couldn't agree with Craig or Marsha more. I'm sick of being painted by the left as "extremists" who want to do away with government. We believe that there is a purpose for the government. We don't believe that purpose is to act like a babysitter for morons and imbeciles who REFUSE to get off their butts and be productive. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Generally, the people who complain most and do nothing...are part of the problem.
