Head of Italy's aviation body to fly over Y2K date change period

Story Filed: Wednesday, December 01, 1999 5:00 PM EST

DEC 1, 1999, M2 Communications - The head of Italy's civil aviation authority ENAC has announced that he will be flying with his wife in his light aircraft from Bologna to the Po Valley during the New Year change over period and said that he has no fears about Italy's Y2K preparations.

Italy has been identified by the US State Department report on Y2K as being potentially at risk of computer glitches during the New Year period, but officials from ENAC and the air traffic control authority, ENAV, have said that Italy is well prepared and had been given bad press.

It was also pointed out that the US Department of Transport had updated its Aviation Y2K Information Review web page and had given Italy a positive report according to Reuters.

It's just words. I'll believe it (and Garvey, and Koskinen) when they're actually up there - preferably with all of their family and friends - and not a second before.

China's line is more credible: "our airline chiefs will be up there - WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT". One of the few advantages of an oppressive regime, eh? :|
