I have just concluded an intensive two week research for a digital camera under $1,000 and the conclusion is that there are two alternatives. 1. The Olympus C2000 zoom, and 2. The Nikon 950 Coolpix. They both offer great picture quality and camera functionality. Onvia.com has great prices and are respectable. The cameras should cost you $700-$800 but youll have to add Memory card (at least 32MB) ~$80, Memory card reader/converter (additional $50), two sets of 4 NIMH (Nickel Metal Hydride 1400 mAh min) batteries and a charger and perhaps a case.

Olympus is rolling out its new C2020 zoom this month for about $850 which is identical to the C2000 zoom only with more manual control, a black and white pictures option, and the most exciting feature which enables one to film a 1 minute video capture on the digital media memory card. Thats the one Im getting.

Enjoy and be assured of my research, Im a scrupulous research analyst for a VC fund that is always looking for the best value.

i like oly 2020: small, best manual control canon s10: smallest sony 505: top quality 5x zoom lens all 3 have superior image quality.

The epson 850 might be good too.
