printing digital camera source images

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have spent some considerable time scanning images for use on the internet as well as for printing hard copies. My business is as a fine art sculpture broker and exhibition consultant. I have always rlied on an older madel UMAX flatbed scanner, Adobe photoshop and ALPS 5000P printer. Honestly I get photo quality images from this combination but I spend ALOT OF TIME at the scanner. I would rather be able to download my shots from a digital camera but have been told the industry standards aren't up to par yet. I download many of the images I found on your comparison page, which was really quite helpful. Unfortunately, most of the images were too large to print out so I had to reduce the images better than half their original size, but did not alter the resolution. Truthfully, I think there must be some way to reduce the printable image size without losing crispness of image. I ran test prints of the Agfa ePhoto 1680; Canon Powershot 50; kodak DC290 and the Olympus C20. All but the Agfa had images that were too large to print on standard 8.5" x 11" paper. I would like to buy into a digital camera but ....
