More FromThe Seattle Police State

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

From our peaceful protests of yesterday which became violent last night. Now today the Seattle Police are not restraining themselves and not letting it seems the people to EVEN PROTEST. The Seattle mayor is expanding the NON PROTEST AREA. HOW QUICKLY HAS THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT TAKEN AWAY OUR AMENDMENT RIGHTS TO PUBLICLY PROTEST IN A NONVIOLENT WAY our grievences. I saw yesterday a few times when the police did overstep their bounds but for the most part I appluad them for yesterday. But why did the police yesterday carry machine guns which were seen. Besides Pepper and Tear Gas, the police also did use Rubber Bullets. Now what makes the authorities so afraid and edgy? I believe in America and always have been a lawful abiding citizen. Now what I am seeing today really does sicken me to see OUR AMERICAN RIGHT to address our grievences in a peaceful manner being taken away. Here in Seattle the Seattle Police with the National Guard seem to be controling the streets. It is such a sad day AMERICA! But am also seeing, that for the police just to control part of the downtown area takes all of their resources. So if Y2K does take out large parts of the city - it will be a war zone for the police will be so thin that they would NOT be able to keep the peace. But America now is no longer the land of freedom, thanks to our politicans we have sold ourselves to the rich world global coperations and their worls state which is dedicated just to serve them and keep us THE PEOPLE as just serfs. Wishing you the Best

--well, off topic for this thread, maybe, but it(your observation of numbers of police versus crowds) supports my view that "das authorities" would be forced to use aerial gas or bio agents to "control" large urban areas. Chemtrail testing, anyone? Multiply those relatively small crowds compatred to 995 of the population that is un prepared to be independent with food and water, etc. Imagine the riots then.

They're desperately trying to avoid another Rodney King situation.

If LA hadn't been burned & looted with loss of life, we would not be seeing such over-reaction in Seattle.

Does anyone disagree with that?

Seattle has long been known as a haven for the political "left." It is for the Lesbians, what the Castro district of San Fran is for gay men.

So, in a way, the political left is getting their just reward, by having our most leftist president in history come to their fair city and pound the crap out of the dissidents that get in his political way.

America is reaping the benefits of voting their pocketbook instead of their conscience. Heil Klinton and the NWO!

Bill Clinton says he is "very sympathetic" to concerns of labor and environmental groups whose protesters ground the World Trade Organization summit to a halt."

The police did a great job yesterday, showed great restraint. I'm hearing evidence that they're a little more prickly this morning, we'll have to see how it unfolds. It's a little over-the-top to call it a police state yet, but if you aren't here you're seeing one or two juicy clips repeatedly, and it's hard to have a balanced perspective.

Bear in mind that even if the police have the best of intentions, things can deteriorate now or in Y2k. As they are spread thinner and get less sleep, their fuse gets shorter just as yours would. One of the best things you can do for Y2k is to keep pressure OFF the cops. Do NOT make them come and keep peace in your neighborhood, because you don't want a tired, frazzled, dominance-oriented person to make decisions for you. For the same reason, you want to keep your town peaceful enough that the NG doesn't have to come help.

As I tell community groups, there is going to come a time when a state NG commander calls our sheriff and asks whether they need the NG to patrol the town. The best possible answer is "No, we're fine, we're handling it." If you help your sheriff give that answer, you have contributed to Y2k success in your town.

They are ready for any escalation of violence.
If the anarchists bring weapons they will be
met with superior fire power. Make no mistake
about that. The police and military are experts
in violence.

At one point, several hundred protesters blocked
a limousine at an intersection. Four SWAT team
members in helmets and carrying automatic weapons
led some two dozen riot police into the intersection
to clear it out as the demonstrators shouted, "Nazi, Nazi."

Just your friendly neighborhood far-right wing leftist. Reminds me of Jack London's book "The Iron Heel," a fictionalized account of how Attorney General Palmer and his goons smashed the Wobblies in the 1920s, even breaking all their printing presses. As Orwell said: "If you want to know what the future will be like, imagine a boot stomping on a human face...forever."

Well said, bw. Hopefully, this will be wasted advice in this forum: we're all computer nerds and would rather huddle in our caves and bunkers than go and wave guns in the face of anyone with a uniform. Yes, even zog. ;p

By the way, I'll be donating blood this week. I may even ask if there's anything I can do to help out at my local casualty department come rollover. Probably not, but there's no harm in asking.

Spidey,

I have a great digital version of Iron
Heel. This is by Gutenberg Press. Email
for a copy.

The main contingent of protesters who came here to protest the WTO agreed to NOT protest today out of consideration of what happened yesterday. Those who are being arrested right now are a relitive few who have chosen to be arrested, who's goal yesterday was to be arrested and are passing the line with the full intention of getting arrested in symbolism for something.

It is not a police state, it is mearly a a group of protesters accomplishing their symbolic goal.

Early this morning, as soon as the curfew was lifted, the protesters came into town and started cleaning up the mess and trying to remove the graffetti.

Be aware that protesters are not being stopped from marching and protesting, but there is an area that they are not being allowed to protest in-the no protest zone. It is the area of most of yesterdays distruction.

There is a group who are just trying to push their luck, aren't even saying anything about the WTO at all. They are just yelling about their rights to protest anywhere and saying they want to be arrested.

As a matter of fact the police just told the protesters goodbye and left the rest of the protesters sitting and standing there and walked off. They must feel they arrested enough protesters to fullfill the symbolic arrests and don't want to bother doing it any more.

:we're all computer nerds and would rather huddle in our caves and bunkers than go and wave guns in the face of anyone with a uniform.

We're not all "computer nerds." Having a high level of training and expertise in high technology does not qualify one as a pansy ass nerd who would rather hide than face an enemy. Maybe it does in England...

:By the way, I'll be donating blood this week.

I'll be demanding blood donations of any who decide they want to take my God-given rights away.

Kayla,

Just WHO do you think OWNS this country anyway? The citizens or the CORPORATIONS?

The corporations do. It's time for a change folks. Time to throw Corporate America out of Government and back into the board rooms where they belong.

They've raped the U.S. and the world enough.
