Some 600 taxicab drivers (roughly 2/3) are participating in a one-day strike in Seattle today. With city streets full of people, metro suspended, and only 1/3 of the taxis running, it could be a major gridlock.

Addendum: The opening ceremonies and Plenary session were the only activities affected. The Plenary session will be rescheduled. Mayor Schell is to announce a "civil emergency" and declare a curfew for DT Seattle from approx. 7PM to dawn. Fortunately, the Sonics game is outside the curfew area. :)

DT Seattle situation deteriorating. Governor Locke has authorized the use of National Guard troops. Never have I seen this in all my 30 yrs in Seattle. Not even during the Rodney King disturbances. Not even in 1968 during the anti-Vietnam protests.
