Mr. CIO and all the other articles - Is it about truth or panic?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've a question... It seems to me that we have reached a sorry state of morals in our country. Y2K has just brought it out in the open. The question is.... IS IT ABOUT KNOWING THE TRUTH OR PREVENTING PANIC that reporters and the government now give us their PR stories on y2k. Take this possible upcoming event of MR. CIO and the Electric companies. Will we get the truth? Or will the Panic SWAT team kill that story simply by threats and by making him seem some kind of kook? I only hope that he has the balls to go through with the interview. I kind of doubt it though, can't even blame him for staying home..... look what happened to Jim Lord on the military web site posting. They tried to discredit him as some kind of weirdo. I'm beginning to think sadly that it's not about truth anymore but about preventing panic. Have we all become some kind of giant xfiles case, in which even the truth is manipulated for the greed and desires of a few????

No one knows the "truth" about Y2K. The "truth" is just someone's best guess.

Everyone knows panic can make problems worse. So we have a government public relations campaign.

If Y2K problems are small or moderate, this campaign may be useful. If Y2K problems are large, the people may panic more after being lulled to sleep by an effective "don't worry" public relations campaign.

My Y2K question-of-the-day: What's going on with the non-mission-critical software? Since a large majority of software seems to be non-mission-critical, does that mean it's not important and can be repaired after January 1, 2000?

Not to offend, but your naivete' is flamboyant.

The goal from the early stages of this has been to hide the truth from the public. The real reasons are as yet specifically unknown, but there are several, likely ones. Bear in mind that the US' stance on this has caused several other countries to treat the issue much less seriously. Clinton's admin has been behind the media storm of "People are the dangerous wildcard in the equation." Not the unfixable programming code. Obfuscation of the truth is an epidemic among gov't. Spreading the truth doesn't number.

There is a lot to this denial and coverup. It is an ugly, complex animal.
I recall reading how an IBM programmer pointed out the bleak prospect of y2k back in the seventies and IBM promptly quashed him as a whistleblower (anyone have a link or more info on that?).

The "avoiding panic" tact is simply a scapegoat of TPTB, hoping to prolong the inevitable, contributing to the real panic disaster during the reality revelation.

No silver bullet. Broken code rules.

Would someone give me a link to this Mr. CIO story. I must have missed something. Thanks.....

It has been planned for years!!!

Please read some of the articles in(www.cuttingedge.org) I feel that our nation is in trouble. I am not 100% sure but my gut feeling is that this has been the plan of the new world order for a very long time.

Our government has been warned of this y2k problem for fourty years. Why have we waited so long to address this problem unless it is some kind of global conspiracy?

For Tommy

The Mr. CEO (not CIO) story began with this posting by Gary North:

http://www.garynorth.com/y2k/detail_.cfm/6776

Then late last week Jim Lord posted the Mr. CEO would take part in a live discussion at this internet audio place:

http://www.m2ktalk.com at 11:00AM PST

Then the next day Lord posted that Mr. CEO would not be available on this show. But today, North posted:

Sorry, but North's editor does not like this space, but the massage is there.

I do not know if Mr. CEO will or will not be available, but I think that North is a little behind.
