Tabs are due at the end of the month not in the middle of the month.

You can park your car till Jan-2000 or buy a 3 day temp, pass

Sorry Dave, but if you check your reg, it has the expiration date on it. If you bought your car on the last day of the month, then yes it would expire then.

However, I bought my truck on the first of the month, so it expires on 4-1-00.

Check for yourself.

come on Prashant.. pay the tabs you owe.. you think you are special and should get out of the 99 year tab fee.. NOT.. or maybe we all should get a refund for tabs we paid this year.. IT'S NOT Jan 01, 2000 yet..

okay don't pay them.. sell your car and buy a new one .. let the car dealers cover the tabs.. sheesh..

Well, here is what an acquaintance of mine does. Buy one 3 day trip permit. Fill everything out, including the month. Don't fill in the days. Put it in a quickly accessible place with a pen. Remember what day it is, and, if you get pulled over, scribble in the dates real fast and hope you don't get caught. I Once took a trip with this person and I nervously kept looking over my shoulder. Hey Ed or Roy, what prize does Prashant win if he gets caught?

Marsha:

Shame on you, giving such advice. Actually, it should not work unless you have certain vehicles. For most, you are to post the trip permit on the back window all filled out. It would not look good to be climbing into the back seat and filling in the date. The cop may not believe it just fell off the window.

Proably a traffic infraction for expired plates. With the fine depending on how long they are expired for.

Also this would be a good chance to do a vehicle safety check, which when I did them, were very extensive. A good cop can always find something wrong with a vehicle, even one that just rolled of the factory line.

My advice to your friend would to be very nice to the officer when (not if) they get pulled over. It can cut down on the above happening.

Shame on me? Did we miss the sarcastic humor? Sorry, I will try to be more serious in the future. Although, it could work in a pickup with camper shell, couldn't it? If the truth be known, I personally think trip permits, and sneaking around is more of a hassle than it is worth. Park or pay.

I thought last year there was a grace period of 15 days, so if the December license tabs expire say 12/21 they should be good until 12/31? Also, a cop should not stop you just to ask you on what exact day does your license tab expire? just wondering.

Jenny:

To my knowledge, there is no grace period on tab expiration. Your tabs expire on the date printed on your registration, and NOT at the end of the registration month, as many people (including, formerly, me)assume. I doubt very much that the police will stop you when they see December tabs on your car, simply to make sure your tabs are still current. They are more likely to stop you if they see you not using a seat belt, or if you have a broken tail light etc. If that happens, and they then see your registration noting license expiration date, you might get fined.
