Someone please come up with a daily "Getting to know TB2000" sort of post. These "What does XXX mean" are coming in daily and there are alot of things we no longer refer to in detail because of familiarity. I mean if I say "NWC" almost all the old timers know its the Naval War College, but newbies wont "GET IT".

That would be great if someone would do this. Also, I noticed that most of you use a fake name and address. Do you do this because of your trolls?

GI - Get It

DGI - Don't Get It

DWGI - Don't Want to Get It

Fake names and addresses keep the Spam out of your mailbox. The Spam- bots will otherwise find you. Others do it for anonimity (sp?). Some just to be cute. I prefer to use a real email address but not based at my ISP. You can get these at Yahoo and usa.net among others.

Hey look at that more cryptic capital letters;^)

ISP= internet service provider

Hi Newbie,

Check out the archives at the bottom of the main page of the forum. Near the bottom of the archives is a newbie section which has several links for newbies including jargon explanations and introductory articles on y2k and links to the main y2k sites.

These should get you started. Then, if you want to review what has been posted on this forum, try choosing some of the other categories in the archives and review them according to your interests.

Good luck. Expect to make a real effort and spend some time in covering the background if you want to really understand y2k, it is not the easiest subject to study. And if you can decide to prepare without trying to understand it completely first, you will be better off, because we are nearly out of time. So you might want to get some basic preps just in case.

Hi newbie. A quick addenda: you can fill in (e.g.) a yahoo email signup with complete garbage - they don't check it - so you can remain anonymous. Consider having two (or more) addresses, a primary one that you keep careful control of, and a secondary one that you use in public forums and only check occasionally. Works well for me.
