Newbie Needs Help... FD73/MX-1500/DC215? more...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am in search of a digital camera, which will be used primarily for close-ups of small items (watches, jewellry, etc), but preferably one that can handle decent family photos as well.

The pics will most likely be stored on the computer, unless the result are really GOOD.

Here are the limitations: -Budget = up to US$490 -Due to location (I am in Jakarta, Indonesia), my choice is now narrowed down to Sony FD73, Kodak DC215, and Fuji MX1700 (one step up from MX1200)?

I am also considering the MX1200, but will likely rule this one out, because of its no-close-up capability (70cm minimum distance from lens); should I?

Under these circumstances, which camera would be my best bet?

THANKS! Holip

Just a suggestion; have you looked at the recent review of the Olympus Model 450 Zoom? I just purchased this camera and have found it to make very good quality pictures. It has a macro setting which is supposed to capture images as close as 8". This camera can be purchased via the net from Hardwarestreet.com for about $244 plus shipping. I had good results ordering from this company.

Good luck!
