OT? Oh !@#!!@#!!! Operation Roadrunner 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just saw on KTAB Channel 32 out of Abilene, TX the following news story:

There will be mass troop movements out of Fort Hood from Nov 29-Nov 30 and then again on Dec 4-6. The newscaster was advising that people would be seeing many troop vehicles on certain highways. Then they listed about a dozen or so highways and farm to market roads in south Texas. I can't remember them all but I think that some of them were 377, 36, 190 (I'm sorry I couldn't catch them all). Then at the end they gave a number to Fort Hood for civilians to call if they had any questions. I was so flabbergasted I didn't have sense enough to grab a pen. The broadcaster offered no explanation for the massive troop movements. Is it too early to be deploying troops for Y2K? I don't know what this means but I thought it odd enough to throw it out there for your opinions. I will try to see if they re-broadcast the news later tonight and get a more complete listing now that I have my wits about me.

Simply call the III Corps Public Affairs Officer at Fort Hood and ask!

Sking:

www.infowars.com will no doubt cover the story. Do you listen to Alex Jones? He's way extreme compared to my middle-of-the-road political self, so if you tune in then you may want to uh turn down the volume of your bs detector just so the constant alarm doesn't get on your nerves....But I mention the site just cause he's in Texas and has posted an alleged Fort Bragg memo that sounds a little like your posting re: new activities of Army in Texas.

Like it or not folks you live in a strategic location:

Strategic Petroleum Reserve Major Refining and Petrochem Center Feeder location for major pipelines Major port facilities

Good news though, I read that the electric utilities in your state are one of the few that can island realistically and effectively during a grid emergency.

Happy New Years Y'all.

I'll bet they are. I feel I can see clearly what is going to happen after witnessing the acute spikes at the store. The prices are going into hyperinflation and the gas prices will climb. The populace is going to come to a grinding halt. As I said in one post like the cream of an Oreo being squeezed by the two cookies.

My dad lived in Cameron TX last year (he died this Feb.) -- while he was ill my sister stayed at his home. She networked with several of the locals...seems in this small town there was a lot of awareness. There was noticable troop movements last autumn...along Hwy 36 and 77. The locals (some of who had connections/relatives/friends who were stationed at the base) said they were practising...manuevers...but that it was much more intense than they had ever seen before. Significantly increased equipment movement.

Hwy 36 out of Temple leads to Cameron where you can catch 77 which takes you on down to I-10 West of Houston. Follow 36 and you come into the West side of Houston. Fairly good roads (which have been improved in the last few years -- nothing to do with Y2K) which are probably better for troop and equipment movements than the interstates.

There are several threads going about unusual or heightened military activity so I think it would be good to assemble the major post under one so we can better evaluate whether a large scale pattern is apparent, and better decipher the nature of the threat. so here goes.

Near Colorado Springs, Colorado this (Thanksgiving) weekend. Fort Carson, which has mechanized (tank) units is located there. If you drive on S. Academy Blvd, you can see a rail yard that serves the base. It looked like a full tank corps was loaded on flatbed railcars (translation=80+ railcars), on spurs in their railyard. Dont know if they were shipping in or out. No associated APCs noted, just heavy armor and support vehicles. The tanks and associated equipment were painted a tan, reminiscent of British WWII vehicles (think about the color of grass in the winter), and several sported the Roman numeral IX, which I assume is the corps. These were American M1 tanks and American (at least as far as I could see) support vehicles. Is it normal to rotate an entire heavy Army corps out during the winter?

Just a note but have many of you been keeping an eye on your Armory ? In casual passing I have noticed a local Armory in my area has been completely upgraded with all new transports. And, the number of these units has doubled. This within the last 3 months of this year. The (2) Guardsmen I know are tight lipped and cannot speak on the matter. Observations ?

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 26 (UPI) Taiwan's stock market plunged Friday on fears that mainland China's naval fleet is conducting military exercises to intimidate it.

The leading stock index dropped 309.09 points to 7,595.44 on sluggish volume. Both the drop and the light trading were attributed by market observers to a report from Hong Kong early Friday that some Chinese naval ships were deployed to "combat positions" during the exercises.

The stock market here also was affected by China's apparent missile threat. On Wednesday, the Washington Times reported that China had installed short-range missiles at its Yangang base, some 275 miles from Taiwan.

Thursday, Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui accused China of threatening his nation with missiles, and the defense ministry called for more military spending.

Heightening concerns over China's military exercises were unconfirmed reports it is returning 50 "retired" submarines to combat readiness. Taiwan's defense ministry called that report a "fabrication."
