Where's Scary Gary?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Anyone notice that Scary Gary North failed to comment on the NBC Y2K Movie and has been virtually silent all week? His famous Intro revised after Oct. 20 is definitely toned down in the last paragraph, where he concedes the world continues in January UNLESS the power fails. Has the P.R. blitz finally taken him out along with Y2K Newswire and the many other commentators? Just wondering.

Gary is working on his next crisis. In the meantime he is Lola Falani's campaign manager.

Me too Jon.

I've seen three websites covering Y2K shut down since 01 Oct.

I have seen subtle wording changes in some folks' essays, but not all!

1. Don't worry about what they say, watch what they do. 2. Don't worry about what WILL happen, prepare for what CAN happen. 3. Do today all that you can and be happy with who you are!

Gary's been saying for well over a year now that when it gets down to the point where the masses begin stockpiling, he would not make any further comments that could create a panic. We are at that point now, and his work is done. Gary's efforts have dramatically increased the awareness factor, and at this point the thick heads that still don't comprehend it probably never will.

HAWK: You're correct. The last time he was on Art Bell, he said that he would only appear there again if there was NO evidence of panic/awareness/stockpiling.

Anyone care to specify WHICH three Y2K sites have shut down recently?

Profit:

Sorry, about that:

Canadian Y2K at http://www.albertaweb.com/year2000/ Y2KNewswire at http://www.y2knewswire.com

third one I'm still trying to remember as it's been down for awhile and my memory isn't worth alot these days.

When I remember I'll advise, sorry, 2 outta 3 ain't bad...

About a week or so ago, North said that he was going to post in the evenings rather than the mornings because his site was starting to jam up in the mornings. I think it is fair to say that there has been a definite decrease in the number of posts, as well as the quality of the commentary. It could be a simple case of the equivalent of "jet lag".

With all the recent news about systems failures on the part of new systems that replaced old non-Y2K compliant systems, government and industry starting to concede that embedded systems could be a big problem, oil worries, Paula Gordon's C-SPAN presentation, etc., etc., one would think that North would be having a field day....

I agree... both the quantity and the quality of his postings and comments has decreased in last week. I expect that perhaps he is going into the panic mode much like chowbabe? Or perhaps he is just decided that at this point it is better to start being inconspicious. After all, just how much could he really accomplish at this late date in the game. We are headed to the end play, and I suspect like a lot of us, Gary is just polishing the final preps toward whatever happens.

I suspect that chowbabe is Gary North's wife.
