DN140 troubleshooting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I installed a Digitrax DN140 in my HO scale Atlas S-2. Everything worked great until I inverted the loco to clean the wheels. I got a short (beep-beep-beep-beep) and shut down the Big Boy system. When I powered up again, the short was gone, but now the loco won't respond, except for the headlight which flashes steadily, about twice per second. What do I do now?

Michael, Digitrax flashing lights indicate a short in the decoder. I'd suggest you take apart and carefully check and issolate all potential shorting. Actually check out the decoder while apart and see if it will work in stand alone mode. Double check that the motor is issolated. If the decoder is blown - your only choice is to send in for a repair- replacement.

Mike, As per Ed you have a short. If you have the decoder tester remove it from engine and bench test it. You probably have fried it. Return to MFG. for replacment or repair. I run a Digitrax Cheif and love it, best Item I ever brought. Hope this helped you out. Thomas
