OT: Technical question about forum

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I seem to be stuck in a twilight zone of November 19. Whenever I open the forum, click on a new topic and read it, then hit "Back," I'm taken back to November 19, and nothing after. November 19 is the last date that comes up. What might be wrong with my computer? I use Microsoft IE.

Has anyone else had this problem? How is it fixed?

It sounds as if IE is serving you cached pages. In IE5, the way to remedy this is to click on TOOLS (top menu), then INTERNET OPTIONS. On the 'GENERAL' menu, find TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and click on SETTINGS. Change the setting "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" to AUTOMATICALLY. If IE is the problem, that should take care of it.

With that said, if you are using any one of several utilities available to 'speed up' your internet access, it may be forcing you to view cached pages rather than checking for new ones regardless of your browser settings. I'm told that most of these utilities have some way of letting the user designate sites that they do not want cached.

Good luck -- KC

I had this problem about a month ago on the DWay Q&A post.

Dave,

How did you change it when you had the problem?

KC: I tried that change; it was already set to "automatically." I did recently change my home page to Yahoo and I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Thanks.
