7:30 EST CPSAN George Washington University Y2K Conference.....As Soon As the Media is Done with the Hillary's Braindead Newsyak

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

How ironic that such an unimportant, timewaster media lovefest preceeds a discussion on probably the biggest issue facing the world that the media will ultimately lose all of whatever crediblity it now has.

Thanks Paul

A very good program with straight talk. I'm in the middle of it right now in Phoenix. It's what we have read and said over and over again on the forum.....there is still lot's to be done and we WILL see many problems and very soon.

Please provide a synopsis, or mention some specific items from the testimony!

Thanks.

Hardly anyone there in the roon - only a handful, and I mean maybe count them all on two hands. I joined in late. Paula gave a url for the last speaker's site www.y2kcenter.org Now is a 5 minute break then on to the global situtation Rob

Thank you, Dr. Gordon, for this excellent presentation. Many on this list recognise that the recent government concern expressed about embedded systems is the clear result of your own effort....a shame it is only coming at this late date.

If you are able, please let us know how attendees and other participants thought the program was received (is there more serious concern, for example?).

At first I wished everyone would be forced to watch this, then I realized even so, they would still think "someone elses town, someone elses problems". AHHHHH...she just mentioned US......oh MY GOD. OH MY GOD>>>>>>>>!!!!!1

Aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahhahaha! Panel of experts and this Forum knows MORE than they do! The audience guy with the strange way of speaking & curly grey hair GI'd common sense more!

Paula, you did great! You need a pitchfork tho for the really stupid dodo doodoo remarks. That last guy with all the lame excuses ... sheesh, intellectualize abtracts diddle time away til all hell is breaking loose and then scratch your head and say "reality is not conforming to my models; it must not be happening."

Marooned by maroons, folks; that's our fate.

We almost DIED when that guy who lavished praise on Koffinsky gave the "lawyer" definition of Y2K Ready. AAAAAArrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhh, we're screwed folks. 'Innocuous' mistakes, fluff by "just" data errors as lowest on totem pole, acceptance of "well 10% of software code is running mistakes all the time anyway." Ready means @ we don't think it is likely to completely collapse catastrophically. BBWWAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA, it doesn't mean they're ready at all!

Morons. We're screwed. Oh well.

Yeah, folks, Paula's expressions while she was recommending the nation come HERE for info 'n asking questions was priceless: bright secret flits of daring smiles sunning briefly out from under those dark eyes and shining curtain of hair.

We're gonna shut up or we'll bust a gut ;^) We just wanted to run thru the TV screen and BE THERE and say a few things. Lotsa things.

Got straight jackets?

Paula, your statement about Bhopals and Cherynobals was necessary. Lay it on the line!

The following is a duplicate of a message that I have posted on other threads about the GW University program on Y2K broadcast over C-SPAN tonight:

You can see a first replay of tonight's panel program at GW University on C-SPAN 2 at 3:30 AM Wednesday morning, 11/24/99. You can also order a copy from C-SPAN by calling 1-800-277-2698.

I suspect that it will be played several more times during the next week.

My guess is that they will play it many more times if you call C-SPAN viewer services and request it.

Thanks for all the interest in the program.

By the way, here is the full website that I referred to:

Y2K "ready" NOT

-- lawyer trick (lies@lies.lies), November 24, 1999.

Simply incredible? I did not watch the program, but it sounds like people are just out right ignoring this problem! Perhaps it's the GI's that are wrong, how could only a handful of people be present at this thing? Reason, NOBODY really cares. Most of yesterday, we had a disruption in phone service, according to the operator a cut cable. It took at leats 10 hours to fix this, maybe more I gave up trying to make my call at 8:00PM. This is going to be real interesting folks, real interesting.

-- Rich (Rluck@aol.com), November 24, 1999.

Paula,

Excellent presentation. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My husband has been a reluctant GI, but this morning he asked me to search on the web for a geiger counter-type device. He'd pooh-poohed my concerns about the nuke plants and urgings to develop our own SIP plan; this morning he was late leaving for work because we were outlining one.

I was sorry to see such a small audience. Was the event widely advertised? I understand that there was another Y2K presentation held simultaneously in the same building, on community & personal preparedness. I know C-span did not record it, but can you give us any information on it? (I'm hoping you'll tell us that it was SRO, people spilling out into the corridor...)

Thank you again!

Ps. At risk of being flamed into oblivion, I have to say it: beautiful blouse.. stunning color!

-- Arewyn (isitth@latealready.com), November 24, 1999.

To Rich and To Arewyn:

Thanks for your comments.

Part of the explanation for the low turnout was a lack of adequate advertising and a late start to getting the word out. There was not Foundation funding for this conference. We found out about that at the last possible hour.

It is also true that there was a concurrent session. However, with the C-SPAN coverage for the national and global initiatives panel, the small number in actual attendance is really moot. The virtual audience seems to have been very large and the fact that the program will be reaired and is available for purchase through C-SPAN are major pluses.

There may be some comments on the programs of the conference series and some of the presentations posted later on my website. This is not apt to happen for at least a week.

Thanks for your interest.
