The Rendon group was commissioned to squelch concern about possible repercussions from the CDC (century date change). John very likely employs several of our regular posters including Andy Ray [aka Stephen Poole], Y2K Pro, YouKnowWho, and others.

In addition to his twenty (20) years of experience as senior strategic consultant at TRG, Mr. Rendon previously served as Executive Director and National Political Director of the Democratic National Committee; Executive Director of the Commission on Presidential Nomination and Party Structure; Director of Scheduling for President Carter's 1980 national general election campaign; and member of President Carter's senior campaign staff.

Aw. And he looks so "cuddly!"

Appearances... deceive. He's quite good at it.

*Sigh*

lisa- Do you have any "evidence" that the above named people are employed by John Rendon? The fact that they disagree with your point of view (and openly express it) hardly qualifies as "very likely".

As a longtime lurker on this board I must say that the speed and enthusiasm with which our resident "pollys" attack any negative post leads me to believe that these people are on the government payroll. Ever read "1984"? Big Brother IS watching YOU!

Without naming any suspects, let's engage a little thought exercise.

Premise:

We know for a fact that there *are* PR firms that offer services including the use of shills on Internet discussion groups for the purpose of surreptitiously getting their message out, and neutralizing the opposing viewpoints.

We know that y2k is one of the *most* "hot button" issues of the day,

We know that TPTB have gone on record as engaging an active campaign of "media management" for y2k issues (covered in Wired and other venues some months back, perhaps someone will feel like fishing out the URLs).

Hypothesis:

It would be absurd to think that -- given the prominent nature of *this* discussion group -- there would *not* be a shill or two or three or... *here*.

Assignment:

"Know them by their fruit." And, be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves". In other words, don't invite trouble by naming names. Just use yer noggin!
