Zero Troll Tolerance: Just The Let You Know My Personal "Take" On the Trolls

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Forum Moderators : One Thread

As far as I'm concerned the trolls pushed the envelope on Friday and Saturday when they repeatedly spammed the Forum.

Taking the lead with successtive rounds of posting 75 threads, 30 threads 20 threads at various times, was DoomerSuck a.k.a YouKnowWho -- a bonafide De Bunker, crowing over there.

At this timeing, when I see something posted from it... just do a global delete of recent posts.

Second in the troll line-up is Y2K Pro. On Saturday, it also engaged in support action to DoomersSucks and spammed the forum. I now delete Y2K Pro witha global recent post delete... when I stumble across it.

They crossed the line, IMHO.

Third on the list is Andy Ray. He'she lightly engaged in the spam action, but if you went over to De Bunkie and looked, it was spearheading and "encouraging" disruptions.

Andy Ray, I now delete some of the time, and am serving notice to it.

Zero Troll Tolerance... is in effect now... as far as several of the Sysops are concerned.

We don't have to put up with this anymore! And I could use the Moderators help in e-mailing alerts since I can only come on mornings and evenings now.

39 Days.

Whats Important

To put it in perspective... an e-mail...

Dear Diane,

I noticed this morning that there were more new threads begun by trolls than by legitimate posters to the board. Andy Ray has even begun a Newcomer's thread to try to snag anyone new who may check the board as a result of last night's cheesy movie. In spite of how dismal the movie was, I have had a DGI acquaintence to whom I had previously spoken e-mail me this morning asking for the link to TB2000. I had given him the link before, which he never checked out. It's hard to believe, but the movie made him want to take a look, and he's thinking of getting at least a few week's worth of "stuff".

Mostly, he's concerned that the movie will cause some shortages due to those "other" Joe Sixpacks who don't have his superior IQ. LOL. Still, I wonder if there might be some DGI people who will think the way this guy does..."What a stupid movie! Of course, I KNOW that Y2K will be a non-event. But, there are a lot of people not as smart as I who may think that stupid movie is real. They will be the ones who run out and clean out the stores. Maybe I better stock up a bit so I'm not hurt by them."

So, I'm wondering, since the sysops have advised Andy Ray, Y2K Pro and their various incarnations that they will be deleted on site, will that be happening? It seems like this would be an important time for that to be the rule. I'm hesitating sending the TB2000 link to my friend right now because of the new troll threads. I know that you sysops have a thankless task, and keeping the board clear of the idiots would be a full-alert, nonstop job..kinda like being an air traffic controller :-)

With appreciation for the job you do,

Marsha AKA RUOK

Oh... and Super Polly (Fu_q_y2kfreaks@hotmail.com), running with the Stephen Poole crowd, is also on my delete list.

Time for them to "go home."

As somebody said already, the Constitution is not a suicide pact.

Good move.

Diane, Chuck, Sysops #2, Stealth: please, just delete quietly. Any time there's a thread ABOUT Sysops or Trolls or Deleting or Policy or the Forum the trolls go insane. It just feeds their frenzy to discuss anything.

Time is too short for this! MORE IMPORTANT VITALS TO FOCUS ON.

Good post of Arnie's on UnkD's thread:

"What puzzles me is why anyone would feel it necessary to destroy this forum?

Several of the recent posts have been from individuals whose declared intent is not to discuss issues but rather to attack and destroy this forum. They attack and then cry 'freedom of speech, freedon of speech'.

But freedom of speech doesn't mean you have a right to defecate on your neighbor's living room carpet. It doesn't mean you have the right to disrupt your local VFW meeting. You may not disrupt a Sunday worship service, a Masonic lodge meeting, or even the local knitting club. You may not terrorize your local AA chapter, nor may you harass the bowlers at your local bowling alley.

I simply don't have much sympathy for individuals who have posted some of what we've been seeing lately. I find their cries of 'freedom of speech' to be, at best, disingenuous. Some of them are obviously children who pretend to be something that they are not. Most of the others are simply social challenged adults who never quite made it to adulthood.

Regardless, this forum serves as a support group for many of the people here. I would like to see it continue to serve that function.

In short, I strongly support the unfortunate action that has been required by the sysops lately. We have the right to gather to discuss topics of mutual interest free from those who seek only to destroy this group. Those who don't like what's being discussed should go get their own forum - and not let the screen door hit them on the way out.

We come from a thousand different backgrounds, different jobs, different religeons, different philosophies, different perspectives.

But the one thing that the vast majority of us share is the desire to communicate with each other in a conducive environment. Whatever their motivations, those who seek to destroy this forum deserve neither our sympathy nor our tolerance.

My suggestion would be to never edit, but simply delete. But that's just my suggestion.

Yes,

Ed's suggestion of "silent running" seems to work better. No explainations.

BTW, Sysops 'n Mods... just discovered one poster stopping threads with the HTML code...
