"Martial law" signs seen transported on trucks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have read of different people witnessing signs which reads "martial Law" or something similar. Here's one recent article. Can they all be just "misinformation" or could there be truth to this. I would not be surprised if it's true.

So far, not a shred of real evidence that I've seen. This link you reference simply presents a 'friend of a friend' story:
"Brandon told me that his wife received a call from her cousin last week. The cousin lives in Ohio and her husband is a truck driver for Wal-Mart."

The above line is a huge red flag for anyone that's spent some serious time on the newsgroup alt.folklore.urban It's been a long time since I've spent time there but it is a most extraordinary place. Before there was a 'world wide web', alt.folklore.urban provided many hours of enjoyment. The folks there take their folklore seriously and such a 'friend of a friend' (FOAF) source for information is generally your first big clue that your chain is being yanked.

In short, the odds are very good that if you attempt to track this story down - and try to speak with the actual person who claims to have seen the sign.

When someone who says that they've personally seen such signs themselves is willing to come here and engage in a dialog, I will be most interested asking a few questions.

Demand stronger evidence. Be willing to entertain speculation while not jumping to conclusions. Truths can often be stranger than fictions.

The phrase above "claims to have seen the sign." should have said "claims to have seen the sign - will vanish into the distance."

You're taking all the fun out of it, Arnie!
