We don't have to worry about Nat. Guard in N. Tex--they are going to Bosnia!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Lead story on the news following the Y2K movie: National Guard troops in North Texas are being deployed overseas for the first time since Vietnam (is that right? That's what was said....)

Anyhow, supposedly an 8 mo long peacekeeping mission. Seems strange for the NG to be going to Bosnia, doesn't it?

Even former Army hubby thought it was a tad odd. No conclusions here , just wanting to see what some military types thought....Billy Boy, you still up?

---I am of the opinion that right now we are seeing generals and units that in the opinion of the "shadow government" would NOT participate in domestic oppression being relocated overseas. Those mil leaders and their units who WILL participate, will, mostly, be kept here. I started talking about this and writing on it about oct/nov of 97, in reference to this time frame we are in now.

I think it's happening, I think we have been seeing the last preparations of the king for life and his drug smuggling, market manipulating and murdering buddies takeover plans.

we'll see....

got your preps done/prepare psychologically too, zog

Not unusual there preparing...sorry I didn't respond sooner...(was bored to sleep by the movie last nite) Not to be unexpected that the Gaurd is being deployed to Bosnia. 1st Cav division just handed off the Bosnia Mission to the 10th Mountain Div at the September1-15th timeframe. That was well and dandy, but if I had to make a guess, that report stating the failure of the 10th probably means that they are going to be utilizing more Reserve and NG kids to round out the active duty supply line. (ie fresh bodies)

Just a few questions tho...what kind of troopies? Service andd support or Combat Kids? MPs or Infantry? Any of the 49th Lonestar Armor? this'll help to clarify the mission the NG is going to have over there...And p.s. the tv kids were exaggerating...the gaurd was deployed lots since the Nam...

Billy: thanks for the response. Both the hubby and I thought that the statement that the NG around here hadn't been deployed overseas since Nam was bogus.

They didn't even say what kind of unit they are. The hubby could tell, he mumbled something about it, I will ask him tonight what they were. A lot of the Gaurdsmen interviewed said they weren't happy about leaving their families right before the holidays but they would go (of course! YOU HAVE TO , SON! ;-)

It has to be a pretty big depolyment of NG troops to get our local news' attention. Lotsa things going on in Big D everyday.

Thanks again.

Checked with some of my sources 'close to the home' (the puzzle palace) as one would say, and they confirmed that the Gaurd is going to be taking up a more 'active' roll in the patrolling of various "Peacekeeping" missions to allow the 10th to recover from it's failing readiness grade. Seems a lot of Brass Hats were really pissed off/screwed when congress caught them short.

Right now, as it stands, we Only have 3-4 rapid deployment divisions available. These include the 82nd, the 101st, and the 10th. Or I should say -used- to be the 10th. One of my bros, (senior enlisted) who I spoke with said that the brass hats not only stepped on their dicks on this one, but did a toe dance on-said dick while wearing golf shoes. Expect to see a lot of office shifting and retirements in the next month...Clinton really is the one responsible tho...

Billy: LOL! I got a visual on the dancing on said...um....member with golf shoes and was LMAO.

Read it to my husband who found it very interesting. He said it makes more sense now.

The hubby of one of those folks I work with just got deployed to Saudi Arabia. He is in reserves as well-for an indeterminate amount of time. He's supposedly support personnel, but I thought it odd at this time of year. One of the last places I would want to be come the rollover. Any others?
