Ongoing ear problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

Betty is my white Standard Poodle. We found each other at the local animal shelter about three months ago. She was found loose on the streets, very sick and had probably weaned puppies not too long before that. (She has just come out of heat and will be spade in a month or so)

Aside from surgery for diseased teeth (several in the front removed) and the removal of a benign tumor by one of her nipples her biggest challenge has been three strains of sudamonous in her ears. During surgery her ears were cleaned thoroughly. She has been on antibiotics a couple of times as well as panalog and regular cleaning with DermaPet. With all of that I am fairly sure the sudamonous is lingering - lots of brown waxy gunk in her ears and shaking / scratching of her ears. I will be taking her in again next week for another look by the vet. So are there any suggestions out there? She is older. The vet is guessing 8-10 years old. Will that make it all the harder for her to kick the ear problems? Any ideas on how I can help her recover? She and I both appreciate your help. Thanks, Mia and Betty

re. Ongoing ear problem

Hello Mia,

We have had similar problems with our toy poodle and I found that a 1/2 baby aspirin gave him some noticeable relief. We explained this to the vet and the vet said it was OK to do and it if he is getting some relief.

Hope this helps.

Tom
