The Canon A50 uses a special rechargeable battery and cannot use AA's. The Thomas Distributing charger won't work for you. I purchased mine at cameraworld.com for $79.00. Great price, good service and free shipping in the US.

Also try Egghead.com. I think they come in around $75, but they may charge shipping. You definitely need the charger. Canon should bundle it with the camera.
