Some spiritual advice - non religious

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I like the folks on this forum, particularly for the honesty. So I'm gonna share something with you. I've been posting here for a long time, but I'd rather not give my moniker right now, cause you might think I'm a few seeds short of a packet. However, it has to do with God, not of any religion, but GOD, the big G.

Believe this or not, I'm quite familiar with the big G, and I say this very matter-of-factly, OK. Its not a contest, its just the way my life has unfolded. Lets see, how can I put this? God can intervene at any time. The big G, the creator etc is really the basis of everything that exists, however, G has turned this creation over to a particularly weirded out fallen angel, or Son. So, creation now runs according to cause/effect, action/reaction or 'an eye for an eye'. HOWEVER, G can (and will) still intervene if the sincerity is from the heart, OK. Keep this in mind. That's all I'll say.

Jim Morrison said it best, "You cannot petition the Lord with prayer." Well, you can, but should you? This place is not a spin off of the Absolute. It is the unbounded nutshell. "In God, we live and move and have our being." Meaning that nothing is out of place as it is. If God wills dissolution, hey, who are we to say no?

1. Yes you are a few seeds short of a packet. Weirded out fallen angel? Son? What does this big G tell you to do?

2. There is no evidence of a god/God/Gods who intervenes in human affairs. There is a lot of evidence that there probably is no such thing. Just look around you and read the newspaper.

3. This is from an old Hassidic tale: Why did God make atheists? The answer is - when someone has a problem and comes to you for help, you should act like an atheist. You should try to solve the problem yourself instead of relying on divine intervention.

aa mentioned

"So, creation now runs according to cause/effect, action/reaction or 'an eye for an eye'."

Not in my awareness, the flow of time is not in "one" direction, this was actually tested in 82. Actually there are several ways to look at this but for a good start with the human side one would look up sycronistic principles by Karl Jung. Or Quantum physics if you are into technical stuff.

Reality is stranger than fiction.

Sincerity is a premium virtue though, along with serenity and simplicity to help live a wholesome life.

hey aabbcc, i am not so sure we agree theologically but i do agree with much of what you say. god is so amazing and the more i get to know him the more amazed i am regarding his love, his perfection, his power, his plans. i always tell my friends that God is looking out for us long before we ever look for him because he loves us so much and wants us to come to him to have a relationship. what's the verse, "the eyes of the lord search the whole earth seeking those on whose behalf he may be strong"

however, there is one problem. sincerity doesn't buy us much if we choose NOT to have a relationship with him or decide to wait until later. because if we choose not to have a relationship with god, he will let us, but unfortunately we get to live with that choice forever at the moment we die. the choice is made and there is no second chance. i never understood it before but now i do.

...Jim Morrison? Someone out there actually takes advice from Jim Morrison? The Doors? The lizard guy? Wow. No offense to his fans, but, based on how Jimmy lived & died, he's about the last character in recent history on whom I would base my life or to whom I would go for advice.

Maybe you mean some OTHER Jim Morrison?

Brian,

Dang, son - I'm impressed! Mind if I use that phrase?

aabbcc,

Awkwardly expressed, but I do believe I agree w/ you. Your packet not only has its full complement of seeds, they're Heirloom Non-Hybrids. Now come out of the closet and tell us who you really are.

Best,

Thank you tt(cuddluppy) Your posts are GREAT! IMHO you are one of the few voices of reason on this forum! God Bless you and your family as we face these days that are ahead. I too believe that God gives us all free will to make our own decisions-good or bad. If you die lets hope you made the good decision to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and follow all of the 10 commandments!

Time is short and we should all get our homes in order-in IMHO of course.

.....Do you purposely fail to make the distinction between "small g gods" and God? I mead no offense, but God takes serious offense to such things. The same holds true in regards to "His" pronouns.

DEF...

.....Why do you bring your sorry tail onto a thread that is specifically titled "spiritual?" You carp about monotheism, but your monologue is about as tiring as it gets, and I have yet to see where you've added to a conversation.

Mara...

.....Sorry, Morrison was a idiot that drowned on his own vomit. His lyric was without talent, at best. I know he had many fans throughout the 60's & 70's but most of them were just wasted enough to appreciate his pitiful "art." I usually like what you post FWIW, just not this particular one.
