ML3 Ring Flash for Macro lenses

I'm trying to learn more about the ML3 Ring Flash for the 100mm 2.8 macro. I would like to know how well it works for close-up work, and how versatile the flash is for other uses such as portraits.

Hi Erik, I use this combination, and I can say that 1. of course it works well; 2. I would recommend only using it with subjects without any significant reflective surfaces - the reflections you got are very direct, and although it's still better than nothing, I would recommend any external flash (or two) on the remote cord(s). I like this one for macro (e.g. insects) and some still-life. However, the shadows on the backgound could be noticeable, and it can affect you portraits - if the bg is close and rather in focus... yours,
