Polly Trolls rub their mishapen paws together while gleefully chortling that they hope y2k preparers will die.

You're a rabid little shit, aren't you? :-)

-- Roland (nottelling@nowhere.com), November 18, 1999.

Don't pay him any mind. He's a rabid, militant atheist.

That means he doesn't believe in anything but himself.

He can only experience a lonely existence with such a pitiful ending.

The mores that bind society together are the things he cannot understand and therefore he hates them and tries to destroy that which prevents him from being the center of his perceived universe.

Roland, Could it have something to do with the MSNBC merger reported on the DRUDGE?

-- Hatti (klanine@tco.com), November 18, 1999.

Actually Doomer, if you take the time to do a reality check, you'll find that you've already lost it. You have already lost self control. Self control is a life long struggle. It's something one begins to learn at an early age.

You can't even seem to converse in a sensible way. Also, you will find that your constant use of profanity is an unnecessary affectation to disguise your insecurity and overblown ego. An ego, I might add, which is obviously unwarranted.

You desperately need to find some meaning in your life. Something of a positive nature to help you grow intellectualy and stimulate a caring attitude toward your fellow man. Your lack of caring attitude is an obvious flaw in your character. A flaw which comes through quite clearly.

I suggest that your family doctor should be able to help you get on the road to recovery with a referal to a good counselor. Also, some medications are available which not only reduce the outward manifestations of depression, but also reduce the tendency toward rage. No doubt a good doctor could improve your quality of life by relieving you of these fits of anger. Believe it or not the rage is sometimes a symptom of hidden depression.

Good Luck.

P.S. - A sabbatical would surely help.

Back to the orignal question, the LA Times has been full of Y2K stories, but they are making it very difficult for fair use posting. The stories all follow the line of : businesses have fixed the problem, but of course unexpected things may happen. There are endless variations on this theme.

This article may still be on line:U.S ._Is_Putting_Y2K_Behind_It,_Commerce_Dept._Says

WASHINGTON--The U.S. economy has already absorbed most of the costs connected with the 2000 problem--a staggering $114 billion--and the future effect may be positive as resources are shifted from computer repairs to more productive uses, federal officials said Wednesday. "The greatest cost to our economy is behind us," said Commerce Secretary Bill Daley, releasing the agency's assessment of the economic effect of the Y2K phenomenon. "We should not lose any sleep worrying about Jan. 1."

{snip}

Commerce officials said their optimistic assessment does not mean the 2000 problem is a hoax. "This was not an imaginary situation. It was a real problem that had to be corrected, and government and the private sector did," Daley said.

Companies with the greatest vulnerability--those that rely on computers for their basic operations--did the most to lessen their risk and are considered the best prepared. They include the industries responsible for the nation's critical network of goods and services: energy, finance, telecommunications and transportation. Small businesses, smaller health care facilities and schools responded later and less aggressively, because their risks were smaller, the Commerce report says.

Even though Commerce officials expressed considerable confidence in their assessment, they conceded that the Y2K phenomenon still is uncharted territory and surprises could still occur.

An article on the front page that is no longer free describes the efforts of many businesses to avoid problems by, for example, shutting down production of dangerous chemicals over the rollover.

Many U.S. Firms Keeping Their Guard Up Over Y2K Thursday, November 18, Byline: ASHLEY DUNN TIMES STAFF WRITER

Despite official assurances that there is nothing to fear from the year 2000 computer problem, unusual precautions are being taken by businesses that underscore their continuing uncertainty over the potential for a great glitch.

Well Doomer,

I read your outburst and see I have wholly underestimated the degree of your rage. Should I refer to you as Charlie Manson or maybe you would prefer Apollyon?

You need help.

Snooze Button:

I'm normally given to much reading and little talk (the appearance of wisdom and all that...) but let the mad fool go his way.

You're wasting your valuable time with a fellow who will not listen to reason. A car does not need a salesman: if the car is that good (or the argument that sound) it will sell itself.

A little diligent investigation of verifiable facts will show a trend that clearly points in the direction of disruptions--and great fear in government minds.

Reason must prevail in our decisions, Euclid taught me that.

Faith, hope and love must prevail in our lives, Jesus taught me that!

Go in peace, brother.

You and all remain on my mind and in my prayers.

Thanks Kurt,

Much appreciated.
