In a book titled American Renaissance by F.O. Matheson, he says "Men grew reflective and intellectual. There was a new consciousness. The former generations acted under the belief that a shinning social prosperity was the beatitude of man, and sacrificed uniformly the citizen to the state". If that is not pointing to romantacism I don't know what would. That quote is from page six of that book. You might want to read pages four through 7 just to get the idea as a whole.
