Smoke Damage to Photo Equipment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I have an elderly friend that was unfortunate to have a fire seriously damage his house and darkroom. The associated smoke has taken its toll on his photo collection he has put together over the years - both large and medium format and 35mm. Has anyone a suggestion as to who you would recommend to clean the equipment up and remove the smell ? Thanks in advance.

Where are you based? Both Munters and BMS Catastrophe specialise in restoring fire/smoke damaged property, as does Relectronic-Remech. Your local Insurer should be able to give you contact names. It is important to get the gear into dehumidified storage as quickly as possible, otherwise corrosion steps in. Hope this helps.
