Oil

Why is it that theres no real Nation wide concern about the Oil issue? You would think that the "keep you car full" or the later revised version of "keep a 1/2 tank of gas on hand in your car" was all that mattered... Just where are all these cars going anyway? Not like they can escape the city and find food... It doesnt exist anymore in most rural communities thanks to massive corporate farming. And why waste a valuable commodity if things go bad anyway? Save that fuel for emergencies. -- Consider today the news article about 2 large coast to coast pipeline companies closing thier operation for 20+ hours during the roll over. Two lines that ships over 1 Million Barrels a day. -- Why? Not Y2k at all cause those lines have everything fixed... Its because of fear of electric problems powering the lines... but there are no electric problems says kosky and Clinton. (cept in small rural areas that dont have anyone there anyway). I guess those guys forgot to read the paper that day. -- Then you have the refineries that are closing or reducing operations or suspected to have serious problems. The Venezuela and Arab production questions (giving us 25% of our drugs... err oil I mean). --- But hey, its not going to be any problem, we have 2 months of oil (supposely) stored in the salt domes... Do you think the Military will let that trickle down to Moms family shuttle? -- BUT notice the key word "OIL" !!!! not usable fuel such as gas or diesel... Turns out the normal supply of usable fuels in the USA is 3 to 5 days. Gosh! Aren't computers wonderful with the way they let trucks arrive just in time with my GAS. Oh well.... I'm glad that all this will cause us no problem... or at least very little problems. Keep on trucking! Long as the Gas flows.

Lee,

Don't it just suck when you start connecting all the dots? Sometimes I long to be a DGI.

Klinton says we're 99% ready...

What are you so worried about??

Go watch the game and have a brewski

Lee

To partly answer the question you posed regarding the need for a full tank of gas. It would provide more driving range should you need to "get out of Dodge". It would provide safe storage for any gasoline needs . We should not wait until the last day to "top off the tank".

At the Arizona Millennium Group meeting I attended today in Phoenix, the oil speaker said, "my greatest fear is everyone trying to gas up on December 31st. There just isn't enough in the station tanks to accomodate everyone". He assured us that the 5 terminals around Phoenix would have adequate supplies but there weren't enough tanker trucks to get it to the stations fast enough.

BTW, I sat by the lovely Laura Ladylogic and she will be on the forum in the next day or so to give her "take" on the meeting. Suffice to say, she did make the speaker squirm.

Here's a thought. It requires you to consider that there are more countries in the world than the USA and it's oil suppliers. Try hard now!

The USA is a staggeringly rich nation. Stupendously rich. If the oil supply is reduced (say 15-20%), then you'll still get yours, you'll just have to pay a lot, lot more for it (4% loss doubled the price, right?). Boo FUCKING hoo. Petrol costs nearly five and a half dollars a gallon at British pumps right now, most of that in tax. Try and imagine, just for one second, what it would be like to pay those prices every day. And yet, somehow, we do it. You could too, if you had no choice.

I can't see there being a shortage of gas at the pumps in the USA, if you are willing and able to pay for it. Bummer for those who can't, but, hey, they'll probably just be illegal immigrants and trailer trash and such, hey?

And THAT is why I think the USA government isn't panicking over oil.

Colin,

Your message has missed its mark today. The statement consider that there are more countries in the world than the USA and it's oil suppliers. Try hard now! might be a good message in another context, or even on some other thread on this forum, but not on this thread.

The forumites who are really concerned about oil are very much aware of what may happen in places like Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. These nations are the source of most of the concern regarding oil. There is no proper reason for you to say they need to try hard now! .

Another forumite who sseems to be British, Andy, has allowed a few of his posts to be sullied with the same type of inappropriate satement.

I do not mean to negate the entire value of your message. It is a useful message. Perhaps you could specify exactly which persons need to try hard now. Some of us don't need to try so hard.

Colin, difference is that England has a great mass transit system. USA doesn't.
