Potassium Iodide

While looking for a cheap source of EDTA for extending my batteries, I found this wonderful site http:/nfinity.com/~mdmuri/artcraft.html that sells potassium iodide for $18.00/100 grams. You could buy some empty capsules and make your own nuc surival supply.

So, did you find a good source of EDTA for the batteries? I bought some from Trail End Supply or some similar named place, and I would be interested in learning of other sources.

My husband is deathly allergic to shellfish and I understand potassium iodide and iodate can be dangerous for him. Does anyone know of an alternative treatment?

MOMMA:

Shellfish contain iodine, but I believe all of it is in the 'chelated' or bonded form, bonded to a protein no doubt. The protein is the part of the molecule he's allergic to (proteins are bad that way) -- not the iodine. If he were actually allergic to iodine he would have a non-functional thyroid gland, would have never grown up long enough to become a hubby to you.

Go to a good allergist & have hubby ck'd for allergy to elemental iodine (or better yet, to an iodine molecule like pot. iodide or iodate.) If he tests negative it's OK to give him the KI or KIO3. Only thing else you have to worry about is Y2K --- an insignificant detail, just a BITR, as our pollies assure us.
