Blocky VCD computer images

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

A number of postings have made this comment and I had never experienced it at all, my computer screen images have been very good until:

I have just updated my computer from w95 to w98se and in the process all sorts of things changed including a new updated driver for my Diamond stealth video card. Suddenly I now had very blocky playback of otherwise previously excellent images (OK I know the card is old and not up todate). Despite having the driver set for 16 bit colour it appeared to be running in a similar way to an image played back in 256 colors with skies as blocky as hell itself.

Well I went into control panel, to the monitor settings and looked in "advanced" and found a window that came up with a number of color setting files normally associated with my "Adobe Photoshop 5.5 gamma settings" so I tried the one associated with my card and wow away went the blocky playback to a perfectly smooth image as had been the case under w95.
