Georgia anyone?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Is anybody interested in going to the Georgia A meet in January? Delta has tickets for $149 roundtrip leaving Friday evening and returning pretty early on Sunday afternoon (lv 1:45). Mary said the food was horrible last time. Mike said the orienteering was ok. I think I will go if anybody is interested in splitting the cost of a rental car let me know.

May I be bold? If your intention of going to Georgia is to keep active orienteering during the winter, it doesn't sound like a particularly fruitful approach. For the money you would likely spend going to Georgia, you could buy a headlamp and have some money left over. I bet that by Spring you will be better off having had a headlamp to train well after dark than you would having gone to Georgia.

I don't know much about the food, but stay off Georgia's back roads. Have you seen the film Deliverance?

A headlamp OR a trip to Georgia?

It seems to me like the best answer is "both." After buying a headlamp, you could train through the dark December nights, then be prepared to blow away the competition at the Georgia A-meet.

I'm sure it will be both, I just need a contact to buy a headlamp from someone. If I just knew where to send my money and how much, I would buy a headlamp tommorow.

Oh, I get it! So that's why Spike never came right out in the open to say exactly who the official US distributor for Mila headlamps was. That, apparently, is information given out on a "need to know" basis only! Spike decided if he could refer to the distributor without naming that distributor then he could play middleman in any club order for headlamps, and by so doing skim off a little extra "finders fee"! Clever... who would've thunk it?

I really don't think spike is that way. He is obviously holding out to skim a BIG chunk off the top.

It seems that whenever I try to inquire about a headlamp I am getting stonewalled. I have e-mailed everybody that I have heard about and either they don't reply or they reply that they do not distribute the PL 120 S. All I need is someone who is actually willing to say yes I have these and I will sell one to you..........

Yes, it seems that Dan has come face-to-face with the dreaded US headlamp conspiracy - a secretive national organization of old, rich white men who sit around in dark smoke-filled rooms controlling the distribution of all night-o equipment in this country. I too did battle with this organization, and for more than a month I failed to secure a headlamp supplier.

It would seem that they must have "gotten to" Spike somewhere along the line, and that hell will freeze over before Spike squeals the name of the US Mila supplier. You might have to try overseas instead. If Trimtex won't answer you, look at Aries Sportswear or Sport Vogl. I know Sport Vogl has Mila headlamps at least.

Good luck, we're all pulling for you!

Fact: Dan is serious about buying a headlamp.
Fact: Dan has inquired among many different sources without a positive response.
Fact: Spike knows the name of the official US Mila distributor.
Fact: Spike has refused to divulge the name of the US Mila distributor.
Fact: Dan and Spike are both members of the same OK relay team.
Fact: The goal of that OK relay team is to win the US relay chumps.
Fact: Dan's acquisition of a headlamp would greatly facilitate the relay team's aforementioned goal.
Conclusion: Spike's recent actions are not only bad for OK, but are bad for Spike.

What gives? Anyone want to speculate?

Mook, you are right. I have created a new topic with info on contacting Mila's U.S. distributor.

I believe that Mary and I have bought our tickets to Atlanta. Now I just have to decide whether to run Red or Blue. I'm leaning to Red.
