My Quarterly Rant,...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Why do many of you continue to post the doomer/polly, "will you be humbled", "am I the bestest bully on the schoolyard" baloney? Why? I am an extremely reasonable and intelligent human being, and the obsession with this nonsense boggles even me....

For those of you insistent upon this course of action...you need to understand that it is the most immature of thinking processes; that what you have the option to do is to make a choice and take action...

I understand though that there are many out there that have been named adults, and yet are stuck in 5th grade thinking. Your time to mature grows shorter each day...Y2K or no Y2K....

Those here, and at the debunkers board, who continue to name call, label, and yet proclaim themselves to be mature and educated are either liars or deluded, no matter their paper creditials and computer language literacy. Make a choice. Take a stand. When found in error admit it...Make another choice. Leave other people alone. Everyone is not entitled to your opinion, despite popular stupid thought....It is what psychologically healthy adults do. Learn to keep most of your thoughts in your head. Bickering is the stuff of adolescents...Bickering is not debate. It is loud, boring and non-productive...and many of us here have been reading it for at least 18 months...

Get over yourselves...and if you can't get a therapist to help you...

I got it!

Don't feed the trolls. How's that?

Laura, did you ever mudwrestle with the KOS?

Thanks, Donna. Couldn't agree more. Won't change things a bit, but it needs to be said.

If this forum is a true indication of society at large, civility and debate are dead and buried. A truly tragic death. I, for one, mourn their passing.

Donna

I had a rant

My little rant

quite awhile ago regarding the GAO report on 22 of the largest US cities. It wasn't kind.

Oddly enough Jim Lord found the Navy report and the rest is history

Well I have been guilty of the retoric lately so I promise to minimize the combative nature of my posts.

There are other ways to get your point across.

Get over yourselves...

Three words for you, Donna.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Hi Donna,

It consistently amazazes me that many posting here seem to LIKE arguing and bickering, because they keep on doing it... over... and over... and over... again.

Puzzles me.

How do you shift that nonsense?

Not responding doesn't seem to work. The troll-types keep on keepin' on... in waves... and everybody responds and yells and stomps their digital feet!

If the Sysops snip it... *some* posters (surprisingly not all trolls and polly-types) yell "Censorship" and stomp and snort and rant... for several threads worth of jumbled venting.

Go figure.

There's enough Y2K news to watch for and buried Y2K info nuggets to dig up 'n research to keep any army busy (*Grin*).

But hey... I personally think wrapping up the last minute preps is MORE important!

Diane

"I am an extremely reasonable and intelligent human being"

... if she does say so herself.

It has been a sobering, and sometimes frightning experience to see the transformation here during the past year and a half. I expect the frustrations of Donna, and the remorse of Steve are shared by more than a few.

I'm beginning to sound like my father.

DONNA-- Timely indeed, although some of the "dis-course" makes me ROTFLMAO-- I agree with your perspective - lots of wasted energy and time spent bickering and nit-picking (intentional?). Love your posts on FRL#11. Fare thee well oh She in the Sheets

That's a (((scary))) thought PNG. (Re: *some* fathers)

Seems like focused intelligent assessments can't occur in an "open" forum anymore. Sad.

BTW, what's the Y2K Japan situation these days? How are you?

Unfortunately, Sysops has of late gotten into the habit of snipping serious questions, so this board has degenerated into a Doomer/Polly/Troll thing.

I, for one think the 47 day 25 Federal Day time remaining is best used in personal preps...I'm installing a top of the line deadbolt and other security devices today, as well as reorganizing my computer to run Linux to get around some glaring security issues in Windows 98.

As my handle says, it (the controversey)really is ALL going away in January. Then we won't really need to know if Ashton and Leska have been tipped off by the FEMA types as to the need for Hospice for the dependent elderly...the body count will be there for ALL to see.

...well said.

We are going to need courage, compassion and wisdom in the days ahead.

I think some threads devoted to those subjects would be a good idea (or similar subjects).

I can't agree more. And by the way, thank you for so many many posts which made me think a little bit beyond my usual turf. You are a very valuable poster here!
