What is my enlarger worth and what kind is it? How old?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Minox Photography : One Thread

Hi. I recently purchased what I believe is an enlarger. It has a straight shaft. Unit stands about 20 inches high. It says minox wetzlar made in germany on the front of the base. There is also the number 743 stamped on the back of the base and on the top of the shaft. Can you give me any info on this? I would like to know if it is rare, what is its value, and how old it is. I think it's still in working order, but I don't know how to use it. Was thinking about putting in on ebay til I saw a similar one on the Latvia museum site. Can you help???? If you need any more info, please contact me and I can answer any question you have. sincerely, Irene

Irene, you have a rare Minox enlarger model I made in 1951. Less then 700 Minox enlargers were made. It is a rare collector item. According to Hubert Heckmann, if Minox enlarger I comes complete with four paper masks, "the normal price would be in $800".

Otherwise, the price may be less then that. As for the one going price, I have no clue.

If you put it on ebay, put a reserve price on it and go from there.
