WHAT HAS BECOME OF ED YOURDON

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HumptyDumptyY2K : One Thread

Folks,

What has become of Ed Yourdon? I have not heard a peep from him in the usual Y2k sites and forums for weeks. The last time his site was updated was Oct 3. Mr.Yourdon used to augment the postings in Humpty Dumpty with his own insigtful comments, but that hasn't happened for a long time. Has he said 'Sayonara' for the second time? I hope the Stephen Pooles of this haven't gotten to him....

I am curious too. T-50 and our "Jedi knight" is directing his attention to other things. I doubt if it is preparations as Ed is better prepared then most of us. I doubt it is the software Engineering Library as that seem to be a fairly polished project. My guess is that he has gathered the Humpty Dumpty information from the contributors and is off in author mode. And it being T-50, perhaps this is good timing ?

That being said, Ed, perhaps you could direct us to the truth.

At least speaking for myself, I'd guess that Ed is simply burned out.

You simply can't work that hard for so long & still have people looking at you as though you horns in your head. It gets emotionally very wearing.

Here's an Ed sighting from October 30th. What to do? Be a coward or try to be a hero?

All of us miss Ed because he gave answers which were technically correct, yet understandable to those of us who are technologically challenged. How many of us have written him at his e-mail # to say "Thank you for all you've done." I imagine he is worn out, but he did tell everyone that he was going to drop out, but might be back periodiacally to comment. He did comment with his "end game" analogy , using chess theme. Also, I think his baseball analogy was after his "Sayonara". I think he's trying to find ways to inform those who will not become informed.

I hope he is presently working on a response to Dale Way. Thanks, Ed!!

Sincerely, Connie Iversen

Here's another recent Yourdon sighting from TB2000:

Just got back from Dublin a couple days ago. Far more serious than the news about the Garda's new computer system was the news that most of the pubs in Dubin are going to be closed on New Year's Eve. How's a good Irishman supposed to get his Guinness?

Was doing a quick lurk over to here to see if Ed had posted a synopsis of the NYC Brainstorm conference. After that, he went to Dublin.

F.Y.I. recieved a message from him on Nov. 12th "...I've got a lot of work piled up and waiting for me when I return to NYC..."

He's just busy... not "gone."

Folks -

Ed's on his site. He wrote to us this morning on the site to let us know that his thinking hasn't changed nor his understanding of the future. He's also posted a few things for us there. Have a good time.
